Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have spent small fortunes since arriving in Manchester - but who will field the most expensive side at Old Trafford?

Both are perfectionists. Both hate losing. And both are willing to spend big at their respective clubs in order to build formidable sides.

It's why on Saturday at Old Trafford the value of the two teams who will compete in the Manchester derby exceeds over £500 million. The figures are mind boggling, but who has assembled the Premier League's most expensive side?

We've crunched the numbers to see how much each side is worth - and just how much the combined sides are worth.

Manchester United

David De Gea - £17.8million

David De Gea was snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson
In the summer of 2011 Sir Alex Ferguson needed a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

The legendary Manchester United boss didn't always have a great eye for goalkeepers (Massimo Taibi, anyone?) but identified the 20-year-old Atletico Madrid stopper as the Dutchman's long-term replacement.

Ferguson spent £17.8 million on de Gea, which remains at British transfer record for a goalkeeper.

It took a season for the Man United keeper to settle in English football but he has blossomed into the Premier League's best goalkeeper.

Antonio Valencia - £16million

Sir Alex was never afraid of raiding Premier League sides for their star performers and that is what he did in the summer of 2009 to bring the Ecuadorian to Old Trafford.

Valencia signed from Wigan Athletic for around £16million. Who was he replacing? Cristiano Ronaldo. No pressure then.

While Valencia didn't fill the void left by Ronaldo - quite frankly, who could? - he has proven to be a consistent performer who in recent seasons has been used at full-back to good effect.

Eric Bailly - £30million

Bailly has impressed in his early performances
Shortly after taking charge at Manchester United this summer Mourinho admitted he wanted "specialists" in every position.

So the new United spent £30million on Eric Bailly following his breakthrough season at Villarreal.

And if the 22-year-old's first four appearances in a Man United shirt are anything to go by, then it looks money well spent.

Daley Blind - £13.8million

Louis van Gaal included the the Dutchman in his 2014 World Cup squad and then brought him to Old Trafford for £13.8million after replacing David Moyes

Blind's versatility has and continues to serve Man United well. During his two years at the club has played in midfield, at left-back and in the heart of the United defence.

There were question marks over his future following Mourinho's appointment but the 26-year-old has excelled alongside Bailly this season.

Luke Shaw - £30million

Luke Shaw has returned from his gruesome injury in style
With an aging Patrice Evra occupying the left-back spot at Manchester United, van Gaal reinforced the position by signing Luke Shaw from Southampton.

Chelsea, the side Shaw supported, were also interested in the then 19-year-old but the Red Devils won the race for his signature and completed a £30million deal - making Shaw the most expensive teenager in world football at that time.

Evra would move on to Juventus later that summer but Shaw's first season at Old Trafford was difficult while his second was ruined by a broken leg. But he has started well under Mourinho this term.

Paul Pogba - £89million

United broke the world transfer record to bring Paul Pogba back

Unless you've spent the last few months marooned on a desert island then you'll know how the French midfielder's return to Man United came about.

Jose Mourinho wanted Pogba. Pogba wanted a return to Man United. Juventus were willing to sell for a world record fee.

Yet what should've been a fairly straightforward move became a long drawn out transfer saga. Eventually Mourinho got his man with United spending £89million on the 23-year-old.

Marouane Fellaini - £27.5million

United dithering meant they had to up their fee for Fellaini

The marquee signing of David Moyes' first and only summer in charge of Manchester United.

The deal itself was somewhat farcial. Man United could've triggered a release clause of £23.5million in the Belgian midfielder's Everton contract but waited too long to lodge their bid. That clause expired on July 31.

Come transfer deadline day Moyes and United were desperate for a signing. So they offered Everton £27.5million for Fellaini and Moyes and the midfielder were finally reunited at Old Trafford.

Juan Mata - £37.5million

With United stuttering under Moyes, the 2014 January transfer window offered the Scot a chance to add some much needed creativity to his side.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Mourinho had decided Juan Mata wasn't what he wanted at Chelsea. The Red Devils made their move.

They offered Chelsea £37.5million for the diminutive Spaniard. The Blues accepted and Mata sealed a switch to Old Trafford... only to be reunited with Mourinho two and a half years later.

Wayne Rooney - £25.6million

Rooney moved to Old Trafford as a teenager

It was the summer of 2004. Kevin Lyttle's Turn Me On was top of the charts. Mourinho was about to lead Chelsea to back-to-back Premier Leeague titles. And Wayne Rooney was the most sought after teenager in world football.

The then 18-year-old striker had starred for England are Euro 2004 and Everton were doing all they could to keep him at Goodison Park.

But Sir Alex had other ideas. He persuaded Rooney to leave his boyhood club and spent £25.6million to bring him to Old Trafford. Rooney scored a hat-trick on his United debut and has gone on to become one of United's greatest players.

Anthony Martial - £57.6million

Martial arrived last summer
Man United's attacking options, having let Angel Di Maria and Javier Hernandez depart, looked threadbare as the 2015 summer transfer window was coming to a close.

So the Red Devils launched an astonishing bid for an exciting young forward at Monaco.

Martial had earned comparisons to a young Thierry Henry but had scored just 15 senior goals. That didn't stop United offering Monaco deal that could be worth up to £57.6 million.

The French side unsurprisingly accepted and Martial made an instant impression at United, scoring on his debut against rivals Liverpool.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Free

Ibrahimovic is the only freebie in United's XI
Zlatan goes where he wants. So after he decided to leave PSG this summer on a free transfer the striker had his pick of clubs.

The 34-year-old opted to reunite with Mourinho at Man United and has made an instant impression at Old Trafford, scoring two goals in his first three games.

United total: £344.8million

Manchester City

Claudio Bravo - £17million
