Abdulmumin Jibrin, the Kano lawmaker at the centre of the unfolding budget padding scandal, on Saturday said he was also a beneficiary of a questionable office maintenance allowance for members of the House of Representatives. Mr. Jibrin’s confession came a day after he accused 10 principal officers of sharing more than N10 billion in fraudulent proceeds. The 10 principal officers who allegedly received billions of naira in running cost allowance include the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, who allegedly got the largest share of N1.5 billion, Mr. Jibrin said. Others on the list are Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, N800 million; Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, N1.2 billion; his deputy, Buba Jibril, N1.2 billion; House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa, N1.2 billion; and his deputy, Pally Iriase, N700 million. The rest are Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, N1.2 billion, his deputy, Chukwuka Onyema: N800 million, Minority Whip, Yakubu Barde, N700 million and his deputy, Binta Bello, N700 million. Mr. Jibrin, however, said he regretted taking the loot, adding that he would explain how he used his ill-gotten N650 million. “I have records and account of how I spent every penny that I have taken. In fact, it has been published in a 150-page book,” Mr. Jibrin said. “However, I have never been comfortable with the money! Thank God the wasteful allowances regime has reached its Waterloo! When I first watched Mr. Jibrin's interview on channels tv at the twilight of the allegations i knew Dogara and Co are in for a studious long ride. He was so passionate about the course he's taking,I saw in him a born again crook who is willing to pull the veil off the corruption in NASS not minding his own head... For he made a touching statement, he says "Now i have something i can die for". I hope his struggle for the restructuring of the National assembly will not be sacrifice on the altar of politics. It is instructive to note that his revelations whether he is guilty or not is for the emancipation of the common man from the blindfold our representatives has wrapped tightly on us from ages. |

My Questions to Hon Jibrin; 1) why is he crying foul now? 2) is he trying to tell Nigerians it was not cause of his sack?? 3) why did he collect the money at first?? He had all the time to own upto the budget padding and corruption in NASS b4 his sack but instead defended it and now crying anti-corruption god cause he has been disgraced out... i'm not sympathetic to him at cause he is digging a pit he will fall into alone cause he cant fight everyone at same time and expect to win in this country Nigeria.. He needs to be jailed with his cohorts/NASS principal for the conniving to steal public funds.. Useless politicians. Hon Jibrin is shameless just like dogara and co.. |

tomakint: i guess u are the one vibrating cos this is actually a very heart wrenching news to any reasonable nigerian considering the fact that jibrin profited from the same corrupt house leadership which he is castigating today. it is more sickening to learn that he has even spent his own share of the largese. what is more alarming is dat this confession might never have made head lines if his relationship with the house leadership was still as it were when he was still chairman. now for the fact that he lost his juicy position does not make him holier or a saint as he is as guilty as those who he is accusing which makes it more irritating to me. 1 Like |

I watched this joker defending every part of the padded budget on channels tv as if his life depends on it; disparaging executives saying they lack pawer to present budget, that NASS presents budget, executives only presents estimates. I can't subscribe to any criminal's caprice and whims who lost out due to highwire politics; we don't need a soothsayer to tell us that NASS members r looters! we v heard more damning things han this n nothing better came out of it. |
