So this is true? The last time I was told what Buhari has in mind, I doubted the person whose informed me. There's sth about this government that is seriously giving me a greater concern. When Goodluck was the president of Nigeria, he empowered all this six geo political zone in Nigeria. But immediately Buhari becomes the president, he channelled most of the major investments to the northern part of the country.
Thats true but not as regards this. it is impossible for such a project to be conceptualized, planned and executed within one year. 3 years at least. All in all its a good development which i applaud the previous government for. It walked its talk on agricultural revolution especial in an industrial scale and i hope this government improves on it and not these pedestrian ideas i hear all the time like one day off for farming - RUBBISH.
Nigeria is currently and steadily increasing its capacity for rice production and this would also add to the consistent (approximately 7.5%) drop in food imports yearly for the past 4 years (ps.data for this year yet to be released)

everyone is constructing rice mill but only few are cultivating rice. Without rice farms these rice mills will close down in no distant time and people will blame the government in power when the unfortunate will happen. You don't need the biggest rice mill in africa alone you need a corresponding biggest rice farm to balance it up. Congratulations for creating jobs but do well to secure those jobs
they've thought ahead of you, before someone can construct such this big rice mill all necessary arrangement must have been put in place..........

Hope it will not be the case with this Rice Mill.

Nice one but much attention is needed in the area of cultivation so that the rice mills can be run optimally.

What's your source of this misinformation? Even states like Lagos and our own dear Aliko Dangote has thousands of Hectares of rice farms. I see Nigeria exporting rice pretty soon. Agric diversification under GMB is real.

The fall in oil price is a blessing in disguise so far we can diversify. Nigeria needs to take the bull by the horn. West African markets must be annexed from the Western powers. Charity, they say, begins at home.

Dollar value would still remain erratically volatile until December 2018 when we'll start exporting refined oil and probably bagged rice.

The road might be messy and murky yet I still believe in this country.
YES!! I BELIEVE.

Ayatullah:
God bless President Muhammad Buhari, BUT in the interim he should do something to make food available to Nigerians fast fast. We are happy at the money being recovered and looters brought to their knees, but the enthusiasm is dying as hunger bites harder. If there is a credible measure for popularity measure in Nigeria as in the Western world the president must have seen his popularity seriously going down.

It's a shame to know IDPs are dying of hunger and healthy Nigerians are stealing each other's food even while been cooked!
Why don't you suggest a magical way of making "'food available to Nigerians fast fast''? Where were you over the years when governments were looting your money and doing nothing sustainable to boost our economy?

If you are a blind follower of President Muhammad Buhari I am not. I did my bit to support his coming to power, but I will neither be afraid nor fail to say the truth when there is need to do so.

There is no magic needed to make food available to Nigerians fast fast, what is needed is placing priorities right and having genuine compassion for the masses.

NafeesaAA:
That won't be a problem, the rice mill has the entire rice farms in Kano as its supply base. Jigawa state rice producing areas of Hadejia, Auyo, Kafin Hausa, and Jahun are less than 80km to Kano. Any surplus from Dangote will be utilized.
@NafeesaAA I hope you are sure of what you are saying that the entire rice farms in Kano and parts of Jigawa state are the supply base of this firm.
You should know that there are numerous small scale rice millers who have been in this business for long and they all source their paddy from the same markets. Also know that Dangote Rice mills too is competing for the same suppliers. I'm conversant with the rice value chain in Nigeria and I know the weakest link is the paddy supply. Do you know the tonnage required to keep these mills running optimally? I think @jmichlins have a valid point. I have seen smaller rice mills closed down for lack of paddy supply. I don't mean lack of money to pay the suppliers; they can't get the paddy to buy!

in the 60is China was called a country under the bamboo curtain but they knew what they were doing, they even refused to join the United Nation until the U N meets with their conditions see what China is today in reality they are the world's largest economy same way, Nigeria can become what China is today with a well focused leader as we about witnessing now and in due course we will become Africa's largest economy without oil and there avengers.

Dangote is fully into backward integration. He has his own rice farms (hundreds of thousands of hectares) that can efficiently feed his rice mill and wen probably sell the excess paddy. The wise dude started farming before even setting up the processing facilities.
