I am very certain more than 90% of us have always wondered if a phone’s signal can really take down a plane. Well, not exactly…

The radiation from a phone signal cannot interfere with the plane’s operating system to the extent that it will cause the whole thing to spontaneously combust. So even if lots of terrorists kept their phones on and watched data zapping YouTube videos, it will not take down a plane.

The reason flight attendants insist you have your phone off or in flight mode is to prevent the pilot getting distracted by interference noises being emitted from your phones.

You may have heard the ‘bzzt bzzt bzzt’ crackling noises from a radio when a phone is nearby. You must agree it is one of the most annoying sounds ever. Now imagine the headache the pilot gets from hearing that continuously.

To conclude, DO always adhere to instructions from flight attendants as they are there to ensure your safety and mine.

I was using my phone during take off, the no smiling Aero Air hostess came and ask me, Do you want me to cease your phone huh

But Dana Air hostess was smiling and ask me to please turn my phone into airplane mode grin

I quickly obliged...

When I read the catastrophe that could caused, I will simply put my phone in airplane mode immediately I get a seat beside window and calling my people that I am on my way. grin

Funny enough this was debunked a long time ago. Slowly airlines would start allowing passengers use their phones while in transit.

Most naija airlines tell u to turn off ur fone completely not even putting it on flight mode sef...Well me i always adhere to dia instructions cos nobody know wia wahala go from come..

This information is not entirely true, with modern technology in aviation putting on your phone doesn't interfer in anyway.

e.g on International flights you are allowed to use your phones.

The only concrete reason is because using your phone can distract you the passenger when information comes through the intercom.

P.S: air hostess actually use their own phones on flight....
