The academic environment in Nigeria especially in universities can be a very terrible place to work especially if you are not yet a prof and you have good prospects as your seniors or even colleagues can be very envious and can do all sorts to get you out e.g. juju.

I fear universities environment, very deadly but not many are aware.

I really don't get the whole rubbish. They gave you the office, you didn't complain, now they are asking you to leave the office and you are doing strong head. Why don't you just leave the office and go to the one they assigned you now? Are you trying to say all those that have had their offices reassigned in U.I had problem with their H.O.D or senior staff?

Why do people just cause trouble for themselves unnecessarily? Abi is there crude oil under the grounds of the office that you are exploring?

I really don't get it

Madam Lecturer,

I am just curious! Is there juju or diamond in that office that made you not to want to leave the office?

Your employer says change office, they did not say move out of UI, what is so strange in this?

Stubbornness can sometimes border on stupidity.
My Oga, u just said it better than I did. What's in the office that she doesn't want to leave it. That your last line has 1000likes from me

Most Nigerians and injustice are at par with beans and rice.

Just because someone is privileged to be at a position does not mean that he should treat others as filty rags.

Ok bruh, lemme try to explain, you should get it now

The office which they wanted her to vacate wasn't provided for her by the department. If you observe from her words up there, she said the office is in another department (botany) which is not far to her department (microbiology). She got the office, cleaned it and arranged it herself (the office has been vacant since 1994) You can imagine how disorganised the office would be, so she took her time to arrange and clean the office.
She didn't want to leave because no office was given to her.. She got that herself.

Re: How UI Sacked Adenike Ogunshe Over ‘refusal To Vacate Office’ by Nobody:
It reads like a classic case of arrogance of the weak, what the Yoruba would call (agidi mekunu). What's in office? Who is she that a whole faculty of science would order her to vacate an office but still dragging? She could have even used the opportunity to demand for a better office but chose to conveniently disregard Dean's directive. She foolishly played into the hands of her enemies.

1. There were documented instances of her not turning up for lectures. She was rightly queried for dereliction of duty. Now, I had lecturers who casually moved their courses to Saturday while I was in UI. Nobody cared, perhaps except the students. But if you are fighting your HODs, Onilude, Fagade etc, you can't afford to be one of such lecturers. You must truly be above board in everything to fight people who can end your career.

2. There was an instruction from the Dean of Faculty of Science tying her office to a successful accreditation (see politics, lol). She disregarded the directive which would be interpreted in official quarters as working against accreditation of the department. So, from department to faculty, she branded herself a bad person. No where in her entire story did she offer to vacate an office provided the faculty was willing to provide a better alternative for her. For her it's that office or nothing. Now after her sack, would she still have access to the office?

3.She is not loved by students. This is not a case of a popular lecturer being victimized by the authorities. In either 2004 or 2005, I took MIC 221 (Introductory Microbiology) as one of my out-of-department requirements. She was one of the lecturers. For you to enter her class, she would demand you tuck in your shirts regardless of what you wear. She had other ridiculous conditions for ladies. In her test, I recall, she would ask that you write all you have learnt in that course and there is no extra sheet. No specific question, just write all you have learnt. I managed to get an A in the course but many students did not have good words for her.

In school, we all played politics, students, teachers, non-academic staff etc. When her candidate for HOD lost, she should have embraced the winner, or chose to fight another day. A simple meeting with her HOD Onilude, who was an ASUU veteran, would have resolved the issue. "I would have loved Prof Sanni to win but now that God has done it for you, remember me in your kingdom" would have solved it. Those who overlooked a professor for Onilude to become HOD are better equipped to fight the battle than a mere lecturer who is just starting an academic career.

I don't think UI would sack a lecturer who petitioned the presidency, the NUC, ASUU etc without valid reasons especially in a case that has dragged for more than ten years and had seen three vice chancellors. When some people are more powerful than you are, wisdom demands you make them your friends, not enemies. Sometimes, you eat the humble pie and beg your enemies to leave you alone. Arrogance kills.

lecturer 11 is not a senior lecturer.if the VC is of the opinion that she should moved offices,dr ogunshe ought to have complied and if she find that action unpleasant, she ought to have complained and if her complaint did not get the deserved sympathy, she ought to have sought alternate employment elsewhere.

to think such a low quality minded ex vc is now mister of health shows how clueless buhari has been in appointing unfit persons.someone who could not resolve allocation of office issue made a minister.

sure the court will grant some reprieve to dr ogunshe but why waste your precious time keeping your academic life in a limbo.
u guessed right.i was once a lecturer.

nigeria faculties parades the most pedestrian of all minds and it is really a sad state of affairs.dr ogunshe move on to better things in life.

like the guy above me stated point blank.it was all politics and dr ogunshe didnt have the opportunity of listening to akanki's advice"stoop to conquer".

petition writing is one sure signal that she allowed herself to be bought over into a pedestriaan culture and if what bayooooooooooooo said its true,dr ogunshe check your attitude and resolves your attitude problems before you take up your next appointment.why will u be asking students to write all they have learnt in atest, why not give specific questions.please crosscheck all the facts you intend to take to court with me before going to case.you dont seems to have told us all the sides to the story.the supreme court will sanction your termination if you are truly a bad teacher.trust them ,they wil find other grounds to justify your dismissal.

You've said a lot that are right, in the game of power you moved can't be so obvious. It is very dangerous for oyour leade to directly know you are against him. It's better tO get more powerful people to fight your battles atimes. Play people against themselves, I believe it's called divide and conquer.
This lady stinks of foolish, and obviously has bad friends and bad advisers . Anyways, live goes on, as a doctor a lecturing job would not be hard to get. Although they would have given her a chance for compulsory resignation but I think she would still protest that one...
My heart felt consolation to her.

She got what she deserves.
Silly woman
Ego and stubbornness caused her her job.
What is a microbiology lecturer doing in botany department?
What is she doing in preparatory room?
She was asked to leave the place fora resident technologist, technologists own preparatory rooms in every school. And they even gave her another office o.
Good for her

Very true, Bayoooooo. She is incurably arrogant, so much so that she could not consider the precariousness of her perch on the payroll of the University. 3 successive Vice- Chancellors sat on her case and none favoured her, and she still thinks she is right. Arrogance slurs the sense of reason. Now, she can turn her very spacious parlour at home to an office.

Thanks for your explanation. Except UI students n alumni want to tell me that a lecturer will just c an ogfice that havent been used since 1994 n occupy t without being assigned the place, I dont know what to say.

Now if as u said she wasn't assigned the place n JUST OCCUPIED T, z t safe to assume the owners of the place now want t back, n as z done in every organized organization, they wrote to her department to send her the notice to vacate the place.... what of that?

N if her pain z that she "arranged n organised t herself", no p, the department can get cleaners to do that for her in whatever new office they assign to her. Or does the Great UI not have cleaners?

My question still remains, WHY DOESN'T SHE WANT TO LEAVE THE OFFICE??

we usually called her aunty ogunshe because she has the attitude you as a student can easily associate with as she is a likable person. I never thought the problems that she erupted right b4 graduated were still there

she almost made my set not to graduate because she refuse to mark d whole final year results dt year all for the issue of the fact dt her proffered didn't become Hod.

Now the man u r fighting in 2007 is now the Dean of Science Faculty n is even a proffesor, u r there struggling with ordinary office or technicians closet.

Really am dissappointed dt she is has used this 10 yrs to major in the minor n minor in the major. she is supposed to concentrate on getting married n her career instead she's fighting. I wish her well sha
