You see why i say the mentality in Nigeria is the main reason the country is the way it is? You people just don't think like a human being should. What is abnormal in another society is absolutely normal to you. If you go to Germany and suggest what you just did they would look at you as if you have gone mad, but in Nigeria, people think you are normal for suggesting it. First of all, we are not talking about anyone plucking another person's eyes out. If this was a normal country, you would have known that all he had to do was go to the police with evidence and the police would go to the U.S embassy and from there the liason at the embassy would contact the police in the U.S and they would pursue the case. Contrary to what the uninformed OP thinks, fraud is not a civil case. It is because you don't do things the normal way in Nigeria is the reason you don't know this. You all are just too used to violence. What kind of people are you for God's sake? Smh.
If u are not a Nigerian, how would u know how messed up things are? Moreover, what fu*king country are u from? Don't come here, trying to convert me how well civilised western countries are if u are from there, because I have lived there for 4yrs n they have their own disadvantages too. And that reminds me, if the job you're talking about is not legal , as in, it's fraud (wire transfer, wire wire, MD, client pick up, ACH and money market) omo, Forget ur money , that dude will be serving a jail term now or probably might have refund the money to the bank cos after cashing out and the bank finds out its a bad transfer or bad cheque, he will be contacted. Juju no go even work for this matter cos em no sabi road to USA. But if it's not all this above mentioned, you better contact interpol as earlier said. I can help you with their contact cos I have my elder as an official interpol police in lagos.

Do the following, document the job you did and your instruction to the company instructing them to pay this fellow.
attach all these and get a law firm to write the efcc, copy attorney general office on mutual legal assistance and ministry of foreign affairs as well as us embassy embassy.
Make the efcc understand you assume the doj of usa accepts formal requests through the attorney gen office on mlat and you will like this treated as such.
Attach all possible details of this fellow and your communucations and watch bim loose his stay in usa.
moreso efcc gets to have a case on him anyday he returns. If you.like copy the nia but more agencies you copy the better as all will treat. Also copy the office of the secretary to government of the federation.
But if the money isnt legit pls ignore.
These things happen in 80% of the time once your money gets in pockets of persons not directly related who base abroad.Same story.Do not ever let your money enter into the hands of a NIgerian abroad n matter how well he is doing.
Thank me later

I did a job for someone in the US and gave a friend's US account to receive the money with the plan of opening a domiciliary account here and asking him to transfer the money to it. Over time, the money got to some thousands of dollars with him. I eventually opened the account and sent the details to him so he could help me transfer it. He didn't respond and when I called him he didn't answer the call. I called him several times after that, no response. I sent mails to him, no response. I tried to contact him on Facebook and found out he had deactivated his account. It's been like 6 weeks now and the only response to all the messages I sent to him is that even if I report the matter to the police, there is nothing they can do because it is a civil case and he will go ahead to declare bankruptcy and all he owns in the US is a TV which costs about $300.

I have all necessary details about him but I need to know the right way to go about this. I can push it to a level where he will face some charges due to his travel and work history in the US and may even lose so much but that may not eventually bring back my money.

Please, dear people, what do you suggest I do?
I hope you have evidence of what he said about declaring bankruptcy. Use that report jim and see how it goes

I can't believe someone advice the OP to go beat up the guys relative and he took that as a serious option when the person giving the advice was probably joking. He might have used your money to attend to an urgent need, or you think people living in the US are swimming in dollars? And MIGHT pay you back later when he his buoyant or you just forget about the whole matter and let karma deal with him. And in regards to INTERPOL you think they have the time to be chasing someone on the other side of the world over a couple of thousand dollars, and what evidence do you have that the sent money was yours when it was sent by someone else.
lol. Doesn't that show more reasons why he was scammed? The dude is daft!

My dear are you one of them if not then you don't know them? They can ban you for pointing out the truth you saw. I don't blame them because this is a Nigerian forum so anything can happen unless the owner decides to look inward.
I was banned on tech market till 2022 for pointing out the truth about trusting someone you don't know with your money in the name of mod or member and the guy banned me saying I am disrespecting the mod. Here is the op complaining about been scammed by a friend oh and you begin to wonder why will one be banned for pointing out such.

Give us his details. He can be traced and found. He can be reported to his employer by nairaland members on the company's twitter page, Facebook page and a flood of letters. They may not immediately terminate him since he can sue them for wrongful termination but he would at least feel embarrassed and they would be monitoring him closely for any wrongful doings.

I think that's the best you can do at this point, Nigeria doesn't have the political muscle to have its citizens extradited back to Nigeria for proper prosecution and especially not for a minor case like this. Good luck.
Op take this advice. Embarrass the hell outta him. Contact his family, friends, employer and whoever cares to listen. And keep doing it!

You have lived in a normal society and you've witnessed where people suggest that when someone does something that is not to your liking, you organize people to go beat them up. Ok. Smh. I hope you know that Niger does not count as a civilized society. The biggest problem with your way of thinking is every phucked up thing you do can be justified. "He stole from me so i have to set him on fire". "The Nigerian economy is just too bad, so i have to give and take bribe". "There is no waste disposal system, so i have to dump it all in the gutter", "All politicians are the same, so i will take their salt and garri before i vote, etc. If everyone continues to think the way your dilapidated mind does, when will Nigeria start the change it so desperately needs? And to think that there are millions like you thinking, walking, and worse, breathing in Nigeria. Nigeria is doomed.

And you are actually considering it too. You people are just too animalistic for words. I will keep saying that every Nigerian is a potential murderer. What if someone dies in the process of you beating up his family members?
Of course I am not planning to go beat up the younger brother. I was thinking of talking to a lawyer to know the best way to approach this. Why would I go beat up or send people to beat up an innocent guy? The most I thought of was arresting the guy if my lawyer says it's possible and within the law.

Hmmmm...Never thought of this o. I actually know his younger brother and can get how to see him. But from what I heard, he doesn't really care about this younger brother. I might just try that with the hope he won't prefer to lose his younger brother for money. Thanks plenty.
What a stupid idea. Ask anyone who has been to prison their experience. I say this because that is what awaits you when you start beating people up, even people that owe you.

If you were in the US, I would say you go to a small claims court and file a claim against him. I think the maximum claim you can file against someone is about $5,000, it could be more. You do not need a lawyer to do this. You just go down to the small claims court and they'll give you a form to fill out. Once you are done, pay the administrative court fees which should not be more than $30 - $50. The court will send him a notice in the mail and give him a date to appear in court and defend himself. You will have to be there as well. I will advice you bring all evidence showing how he owes, etc. If you don't have proper documentation showing how the transaction took place, you will loose. However, if you can proive beyond reasonable doubt that he owes you, the court will award a judgement in your favour + court fees. If he fails to show up at court on the date he was told to appear, a judgement will automatically be awarded in your favour. Typically, the court will work out a payment plan with him on how to pay you back in case he does not have the lump sum to pay all at once.

You don't have to be insultive to make a good point like this. I have thought of all you wrote here and the issue is in the payment plan. This is why I have not filed a complaint against him with the Interpol. But if after the time I gave him elapses and he has not done the needful, we will go the legal way.

There is a serious correlation. You see, if millions of people like you who cannot think rationally are left to try to vote in or choose normal people, you won't because you don't know what normal is. And saying that because the law does not work is no justification for doing whatever you like. Do you know what species think in that manner? Animals.
