Jcob:Crap, the bolded is why you have been and will keep borrowing to pay salary. Oya now, since the employees are doing less, sack all of them and run your business alone. What you do is decision-making and probably drive in contracts because of the contacs you may have. Now, when the contracts comes, who does it, if the job fails whose is it. You may need to attend or re attend the business school I you have. |

EfemenaXY:This is not even pay me and only me sef. I was earning 25k at the job I worked after leaving school and trust me, I don't think my salary ever took me past the third week. All my salary went back into my transportation, feeding and bare essentials. And that was when we weren't facing a bloody recession. Trust me, 25k should not even be minimum wage. |

majekdom2:I think ten years is a bit exagerrated but on the side , volunteering & getting internship opportunities as an undergraduate could greatly boost your profile in the labour market. It is not only about jumping about to gather certificates, you need to sometimes step out of your comfort zone by being willing to serve FOR FREE of course. Very few Nigerians understand the tool of volunteering & selfless community service. They all add up @ the end of the day. |

@OP I share in your pains and that of any other person in the same position with you. However, many a time some of you employees hard tell yourselves truth; the size and net profit (not just turnover or gross profit) of a company will always determine what it pays its employees. Cost of operating a company is not a small one. And every company owner(s) is in business to maximize profit, though it shouldn't be to the detriment of the staff and customers. Take for example you apply for a job in a sachet water company and expects the company to pay you 300k per month just because of one useless portfolio designation they gave you. Does that make good sense to you? If you wished to earn big, prepare yourself well and apply for a job in a big and meaningful company. You cannot plant an orange and expect to harvest an apple. I challenge you, if you are certain that you deserve better wage than that particular company has offered you, go into partnership with them by becoming their independent commission agent/consultant (subject to your professional role) - this is the best way go test how resourceful you are as a person. You will be a boss of your own while using their facilities and your earnings/profit will be subject to what you can bring to the table rather than what you assumed that you deserved. |

even those that sell pure water earn twice of that every month. are these so called employers take the price of things into consideration ? |

majekdom2:Sure, they are a multitude compared to the few of us that fall short. By the way, that's an hypothesis, I have been working for a while now. |

EfemenaXY:It is better to earn N25,000 and live in Ondo state than to earn N25,000 and live in Lagos state. A cup of beans is now much more expensive than a cup of rice. You cannot survive without begging as even your transport costs alone will hurt (especially if the job is on the island and you live on the mainland). See, offer something people need in this recession. I wouldn't mind some dresses for my LO but they cost a minimum of N8000 at the shop and Balogun is such a stressful place to go to. But I cannot find a reliable tailor. Imagine if I could, imagine if several thousand parents could. That's a business waiting to happen. If I find a decent tailor, she gets 10 customers and immediately jacks up her prices, dreaming big dreams. Every business needs their growing time, no beam sprout entered the soil and started producing beans the next week. So keep your prices reasonable, I'm sure N1000 per simple dress is reasonable. All you need is a machine. There are a few other ideas floating around. |

Diplomaticbeing:@ first bolded, a reason why many Nigerian entrepreneurs fail in business. There is what is called structure and no position is useless. Each business should be structured whether it's just one employee or 2. Each should know his responsibilities and be allowed to work. @ second bolded, we are always about sales forgetting quality should come first. Must every one work as a sales agent in such a company. There are other positions that will add value to your organisation. I ll share a file with you that will make you better understand. Entrepreneurship needs to be redefined to many Nigerians. |

abdeiz:Very true. Knowing your worth truly matters. That was how one employer hired me as an Accountant in his medium scale telecoms firm and offered to pay just #30k. l negotiated with him to make it #40k because of my transport and the work time which was also 8am to 7pm and he refused after 3 meetings with him. On the last one, l told him l won't do the job after l had worked for one week while we still negotiated. Since he refused to add a meagre #10k, l told it to his face that l won't continue working with him. He preached on how he wanted me to stay and liked the way l had adapted to their system in just one week but l told him l was done and he offered to pay for the one week l had worked by the end of the month and bid me goodbye. I moved from the city to another and secured a job in a firm that pays almost three times higher than what he offered but to my shock, the man called me after almost two months and told me to come back. I told him l would only come back if he could pay me #90k plus #5k transport allowance. He hung up. Knowing your worth and not settling for less could pay off but at the same time, know when to say no because you might be in dire need of the peanut as at that time. |

majekdom2:I am 100 percent sure you've never ran a successful business before! |
| Re: Employers Stop Frustrating Us!!! Cry Of A Nigerian Youth. by Nobody: 8:20pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
Jcob:This is not the argument. I am running a successful one. No successful business man comes to say his employees are useless. When awards are won, you see CEO say publicly that the award is for the employees because they are the ones doing the JOB. There are times where businesses make a losses but that's not to say it's the fault of the employees. It's part of the business process. Prolly you are running a shop with 2 or 3 employees that perhaps are typist and that's why you think employees do nothi in an organisation. It could be tough for SME' but that's not to say it's employees are useless. Tomorrow being Monday, since you think your employees are useless, sack them, don't recruit new ones and see if that your business won't fold up. |
| Re: Employers Stop Frustrating Us!!! Cry Of A Nigerian Youth. by Diplomaticbeing(m): 8:23pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
majekdom2:Only engage me in dialog on how to run a successful company if you have a flourishing one that has been in operation for up to a decade. Thanks. On the flip side, I don't remember saying that any position is useless; instead I want her to realise that she should be less concerned about whatever designation a company offered her and look out for the substance the company is made of. I know that the easiest way to enslave most black employees is to give them one big designation. |

majekdom2:Mr Man I never said they are useless. My own ideology is you can't say because they are the pillar of the company then you should pay them what the company cannot bear. So many expenses to consider! By the way since you run a successful biz, how much do you pay your staff? Don't lie! |

Jcob:so are you trying to justify 25k pay for a department head that would work 11 hrs per day for 6 days a week ![]() Yes cutting cost is good at this point but don't now make people work like slaves |

ujuvals, you found an audience to listen to you here but you haven't put your stats that could make you appeal to a potential employer. where have you been applying? what network have you tried to create? who do you associate with? i know things are tough in the country, but there are people getting well paying jobs daily in nigeria. |

Jcob:Pay is always according to structure and should be competitive. The OP never asked her employer to pay what he/ she can't bear. What the employer should ask himself or herself is, does this pay match the structure, does the position match business need. Instead of creating a bad image of being an "employer " it's best one sees that the position is very necessary and it is what someone already in the company cannot do. It's as simple as that. You perhaps didn't understand the OP's message. Why declare a huge PAT when employees are not well paid. It does not bring the best out of an employee. |

loveourlagos:what are you even saying? should i post mails for volunteering that ive sent to different organizations? i dont understand the nigerian work structure anymore. most companies now want interns instead of full time staffs. been to a company where all the workers they have are all interns. which ive always been thinking an intern should wrk with a more experienced staff like an assistant and student. the irony is that these useless companies wouldnt wanna pay you and when they do, the amount paid will be equal to what the boss uses for buying chicken at KFC for lunch on friday afternoons. what are we even talking about here. DIGNITY OF LABOUR IS DEAD IN THIS COUNTRY. they are even angry you have this much qualification, or you wanna quit the job. the boss becomes angry you wanna leave the job and stop being a slave. I had to quit my 20k job so as to make soap to sell. anyways.... i have liquid soap for cars alone. made and branded by me , please notify if you want one . even if you dont have a car, you can buy for your uncle, brother , sister, aunt, father , relatives and friends

Diplomaticbeing:That's your own thought. The average black man prefers pay to position. You didn't understand the OP. She didn't come out out say I am a manager earning 25k. She stated her work schedule and mentioned the pay, Meaning she feels the pay does not match the work load. Which is true. Understanding is key! |

I felt so terrible after reading your post. I have also read some of your previous posts and its quite unfortunate. From your posts, u seem to be quite intelligent and nice and I certainly think u deserve better. I was paid N50k monthly when i worked with GTB during my service year several years back and i have also worked with companies where i earned over N200k monthly and I havent even completed my M. Sc so when i hear about companies that pays peanuts for graduates who work their asses off, I always feel always irritated. I believe u will get a good job but i also have a few tips of advice for you. First of all take away the mindset that u must always know an insider to get a job. Yes, it helps at times but if u have d requirements and believe in urself, you can get it. Secondly, be BOLD and take stay idle. Walk into companies and up to ppl in position after making some findings about them, introduce yourself and let them know how about you and what value u can add to them. Some men might try to take advantage but u can turn down their advances politely. Also visit job sites regularly and apply immediately u discover any job whose requirements meet ur qualifications. Connect with your old friends, former colleagues, school mates and neighbours and dont forget to PRAY. Also edit your C. V to fit the nature of the vacancy u are applying for, have an enticing cover letter and be well prepared before any interview. I lost my job recently due to the mass retrenchment that occured in d banking sector. I worked as a customer service officer and i felt bad. A lot of our customers were shocked because they knew i was passionate, hardworking and always went the extra mile to ensure they were satisfied. Some of them called me to empathise and encourage me and a few are talking to their contacts in other to help me secure a better job. I have a strong conviction that ill get another job soon and I also know you will share your testimony soon. |
