The federal government has let Nigerians into some of the details of the 2017 budget during a retreat for ministers and some of heads of agencies in Abuja on Thursday, September 15. The 2017 budget contains details that will boost the economy and get the country out of recession. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the budget, which has already been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) but has not yet been presented to the national assembly, is focusing largely on pumping funds into capital projects to get the economy running again.

According to NAN, the retreat is aimed at helping the government stakeholders understand how the 2017 budget will run and familiarise themselves with the process. The retreat, it reports, will help set the tone for “prioritizing projects and programmes of ministries to fit into the 2017-2019 MTSS, 2017-2020 Medium Term Plan and 2017 Budget” and “also improve understanding on Budget ceiling for MDAs for 2017 Budget.” It also quoted Akpandem James, media adviser to the budget minister, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma as saying that the key objective of the retreat is to discuss the 2017 Budget and steps being taken to get the economy out of recession. It was held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja and was chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari and vice president, Yemi Osinbajo.

of course, the move will be criticized, not because of any imaginary bad wish for the country by imaginary enemies but because it is a clueless move, other clueless moves made in past by the dullard brought us here in the first place (not appointing ministers for six months, sudden implementation of TSA, rushing to open the refineries before the target date for conclusion of ongoing TAM etc) and when people warned you, you consider them enemies of the country.

You foolishness must be epic bro.Same confused people projecting to a 2017 budget now when that of 2016 have not even been implemented? So the biting recession will continue till God knows when? Since the government have been complaining of no funds to prosecute the current budget,then how do they intend to do that of 2017? These are fundamental questions not just to be following blindly.

So asking why the 2016 zero based budget is zero implemented makes someone insane ? Your line of thought doesn't look sane ...I'm sorry.

Planning ahead for 2017 budget is good.
But APC people are better as opposition than ruling party.
They lack basic knowledge of governance. They are very unserious set of people.

The remaining 2015 budget they met, they didn't implement it.
The 2016 budget, they have not implemented up to five percent.

Jonathan government was better than apc government.

2016 budget should be implemented first and reports on how the monies were spent should be done before anything 2017 should be talked about.

Some mad people will come here and try to convince us that non implementation of the 2016 budget is a great and wonderful idea of the Buhari regime which should be emulated. Nothing wrong with planning against the next fiscal year but wasting a whole year via corrupt ineptitude of the APC led executive and legislature is a disgrace and travesty of the highest order which contributed in no small way to sending this country into recession

Hope this time around there will b no padding because the last one has been sweep under d rug.

They should better start finding ways of funding the budget not waiting on recovered loots oh

2016 budget is an act of the law. The performance of the budget will be determined by the implementation. Signing 2017 budget early is an advantage for the people. There is nothing wrong in asking how 2016 budget is been implemented, however what I'm saying is that starting 2017 budget process is not wrong.

I totally agree with you on this, while it's good that they started early to avoid the mess and embarrassment faced in 2016,; we all need to open our eyes and demand that 2016 budget be implemented as passed, else, what's the need of passing budget that will never be implemented anyway .
