Alhaji1970:1) pharmDs are not fighting to do ward rounds...getting money is the most inportant thing to the pharmacists. No where in their training does it state that dey shud be involved in ward rounds..They just want their doctorate..Most wud be addressed as pharmDs.. 2) Do you think you wud be able to assess eye care if they leave it all to "specialists"? you would pay tru ur nose for just simple things..we have 200million persons and i dnt think we have up to 20k medical specialists in eye care..i hope you knw next to the gift of life itself, its the gift of sight. 3) Never underestimate any profession..We had a zoologist rule our great nation. 4) May God help you so u dnt die of ignorance. |

This is a victory gotten from discipline-insularity and lack of Profesional love, while will they prefer the prefix "Dr" to their prevalent identity of "Pharm", what every one knew them to be. If u don't get a space out of this commodious earth to orchestrate your profession u'll never get one in your heart, #proudly a Dr and noting more# |

JohnnyAmhan:I shake my head.. No one is fighting for that title...who 'dr' don epp? We really do not care f Pharm.D is approved and our title still remains d same 'Pharm' I personally dont care... The main objective of Pharm.D programme is to train pharmacists to possess leadership qualities, clinical experience in order to be at the forefront of the pharmacy profession and health care..... |

Alhaji1970:a Are you at all educated?- At least you can use d net to find out who a DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY (O.D) is . So medical specialists recommend glasses and optometrists dispense them? No wonder our health system is in shambles; when a supposedly educated medical personnel who should be a reference source to the uninformed is devoid of information. And what is more? Clueless cupboard scientists are hitting the like button, endorsing the absurdly fallacious post. Mr Alhaji for ur info, Doctors of Optometry are independent primary eye care practitioners licenced to diagnose, treat(both with drugs and non pharmacological agents), refract, carry out visual rehabilitation and orthoptics, perform visual training and refer when necessary whether to a neurologist, ophthalmologist or gp. All these involve a battalion of clinical proceedures in case you dont know. Dispensing optical aids is d job of the optician who is trained in dat special field.Ophthalmologists and Optometrists investigate and write the prescriptions which the dispensing optician interpretes and dispense. In fact in the field of refraction, the optometrist reigns supreme. That 'independent' means that the Doctor of Optometry can provide the full spectrum of ophthalmic care from case history, through diagnosis, to case analysis,to treatment and referral without any supervening input i.e. they can do this autonomously. At least u can ask google...or cant u? |

frenchwine:I think the senseless competition is due to bad policies (e.g having different salary structures, board representation, etc), bad leadership attitude (mostly in hospital settings) and then the NMA's domineering/controlling attitude (it's natural for humans to react when they feel this way). I worked in a health organization that had one salary structure ( but the percentages were quite different and well spelt out for the different professionals with Drs having highest percentages). We had only one ranking style/system. We had one strong union with rotational leadership pattern across d different professions (though different professionals had their sub-group meetings or associations). Everybody was important and was given a sense of belonging. We were all colleagues and greeted ourselves by first or last name depending on which one the person prefers. Though for d senior colleagues we must add title to show respect. We were our brothers' keeper. I worked for two yrs there before going to an FMC to meet a very hostile environment; health workers (care givers) beefing themselves, keeping malice, not greeting themselves, carrying shoulders here and there. Further worsening an already dilapidated system.... with the poor patients at the receiving end. I couldn't cope so I left after 4months. It's quite unfortunate. |
