Very soon everybody working in the hospital will soon be addressed as Dr. We already have Dr of Optometry for people who specialize in eye glasses and are already in battle with Medical specialists that take care of eye diseases, do surgeries and recommend eye glasses (that optometrists then dispense!). Soon these Dr. of Pharmacy will want to do ward round, run out patients clinics, etc.
Dr. of Medical Laboratory Sciences is loading as well as Dr. of Social Work, Dr. of Psychology, Dr. of Nursing, Dr. of Hospital Attendants, etc

of course we are not med Dr.... We are Pharmacist Dr and we our job description and med Dr i believe knows theirs... Jus as a medical Dr will direct a patient to the respective specialist Dr with regards to the area of focus wic the patient needs, pharmacists also direct patients to the Dr once it's above their scope of job... The Dr analyses the situation and sends him back to the drug Lord to issue the med and give directions to the patient... I don't see any need fr the fight BTW pharmacist and Dr.... I thank you

Hmmm.. Hope the patients will not be confused on who is who in the hospital. Pharmacists answering doctors has not translated them into medical doctors. They should keep to their own line of duty and keep off from the duties of Medical doctors. It is not in fighting to answer Dr this or that just to rub shoulders with Medical doctors, they should fight more to curb fake drugs, and fake chemists(pple who are not trained and licensed Pharmacists) from circulating and dispensing drugs to the public. Anybody can buy the doctorate title any day and any time.

There is a limit to what a pharmacist can diagnose. Common illnesses can be diagnosed by them.

It is agreed they have a wider base of info concerning drugs especially manufacturing and dispensing.but not as it affects the human body.doctors have the edge here.

Are you saying this Pharm.D degree will be given to those who studied Pharmacy up to doctorate level by undertaking masters along the way too or just someone who did a bachelor's degree of say 5-6 years studying Pharmacy, cos that's what majority on this thread are making me believe with their celebration as we know medical docs don't have to do a doctorate degree to be addressed as Dr. If what you're saying here is the case, then I don't see a reason for confusion you're talking about cos you'll be referred to as a Dr as far as you have a doctorate degree regardless of field even if it's in Yoruba Language.

The D.MLS is a postgraduate doctoral degree which can be gotten after msc..
You are making it seem like it's a first degree like Pharm D

Well with time everyone will have a doctor title attached to their name and the patients will be forced to start asking questions.

a good one there for pharmacy. if that is what is needed to improve medical delivery to the patient then so be it. One group can not lord it over others in order to frustrate them frm reaching their full potential, becos they are afraid they will also be seen as being important to health care delivery. When they first supressed it, they were happy beating their chest. Not knowing that justice delayed is not justice denied. When it is ur time to enter the next level, no forces no matter how big they are can stop you. Congrats to pharmacy for this well deserved achievement. its time to unshakle medical practise from the cabals who've been holding it down. I see other medical profession growing and taking the medical field to the enviable height it ought to be.

The pharmacists should be concerned with manufacturing and dispensing drugs, while the Medical Doctor is concerned with diagnosing and telling the pharmacist the drugs the Doctor need for treatment of the patient, which is dispensed by the pharmacist!!!! that's the practice, world over!!! Its only in Nigeria that a court clerk would fight to preside over a case, and ask a judge what the judge can do, that he the clerk can't do!!!! Nigeria is professionally messed up!!!! We don't give a flying fvck if they answer Doctors, but we give a supersonically flying fvck if they go beyond the ambits of their profession and encroach into ours!!!!

Comment with sense now haba, the PharmD program is 6 years not 5. Be guided know your facts.

Ahmed Yakasai's administration has recorded a lot of success so far and I want to thank everyone that made this possible including the NUC, FEC and the honorable minister of education.

Victory at last for pharmacy. I'm also proud of the resilience and doggedness of my school UNIBEN in being the poineer institution to implement pharm.D degree
