How Wakanow Is Deceiving Its Customers! by Fongdu: 3:29pm On Sep 18, 2016
So I wanted to buy a ticket from Lagos to Dallas and I decided to check out Wakanow. I had some dollars and decided to pay in dollars which I think should be even cheaper considering that most airlines give their prices in USD which is converted to Naira for Nigerian customers.

Lo and behold, I noticed that the dollar rate on Wakanow when I changed the currency did not tally with what was presented in Naira if one is using the current official international rate of 315. Basically Wakanow was changing the dollar rate to Naira at 307! How is that possible considering that official international rate is currently 315? Well I did not really mind as this made paying in Naira cheaper for me, even though it raised red flags.

So I continued, and placed my booking. I later called them only to be informed that my booking price which I saw on the website had changed with an extra N163,000 which I had to pay to get the booking confirmed. This was the next day. Luckily I travel a lot and from my experience, ticket prices can fluctuate not more than $100 within 2 days. I did not bother with them again.

I realised what Wakanow is doing, they display ridiculously cheap prices on their website to lure people, by basically using a ridiculous exchange rate below official rate to display the Naira prices. Once the person pays, they will then ask you to pay the balance for a real ticket price, with the excuse that the ticket price has changed!

I know they will have agents here, and I will gladly welcome an explanation on my observations. For the rest, please be warned.

This happens most times when there a bit of delay between booking and payment time but not in all cases though.
I use them often and my strategy is when I see a rate on the portal I call to confirm before booking and make payment immediately.
Another strategy is when I know am ready to travel I just keep checking and once I get the rate I just drive down to their office to complete booking/payment.
I fully understand this business so I develop my style which works for me.Not easy to part with money this Buhari time. Smile.

The truth about Wakanow is that just follow the simple steps
1. Book your ticket and pay immediately.
2. If you book on hold ensure you call before making payments.
3. All cheap tickets on Wakanow are either non-refundable and you pay as much as th original amount for th ticket when you are changing the date.
4. Wakanow are just suitable for those on very lean budget and if you are very sure you are not changing your travel date and not missing your flight.

I don't work for Wakanow but I have their ticket severally without any issues. If you want to buy buy full ticket that I refundable and rebookable don't use the website but call the agents directly.

Hello House,

Wakanow is presently dealing with me.
They didn't not confirm my bookings, one 585k, one 645k, another 583k , after several emails and calls, until I booked a 700k ticket, that's when they financed it with my outstanding fund(for three days) and no confirmation email. One of their staff even asked for a credit b4 he would treat my request. Which I sent(ibhave the scfeenshot). Then I saw a new ticket of 460k, and I booked it, that's when they said they have already issued a ticket for the 700k(thats when they now sent a confirmation email). I was told by a an insider I have there that there is no big deal in it, that they can cancel that ticket and finance a new one. But they insisted it's too late.
Bottom line: I booked several low fare, they didn't issue a ticket, Infact I was told several times that the person handling my transaction is on leave, so they can't treat until he is back. They are now issuing a ticket for a high fare. So unfair!!!
I am not gonna let this slide. I would deal with them, because of their next victim.
So I am making this go viral on both twitter and facebook. #wakanowisascam. I need ur support.
I am working in conjunction with two SUG presidents, we are getting more than 5m retweets.
I would feed u back as it goes.
Thanks you
