Hello friends,
I know alot has been posted about immigration into Canada. But too many conflicting info has made it difficult to get concise and precise info.

My sister is a registered nurse (RN) and also qualifies ss a psychiatric nurse from ARO, Abeokuta.
And she intends to work in Canada/US. Please your info/advice/experience about the important procedure/process/application/documentation etc would be appreciated.

She's done IELTS.

THANKS.

http://www.healthforceontario.ca/en/Home/Nurses/Training_%7C_Practising_Outside_Ontario/Practice_Requirements

To practise nursing as an RN or RPN in Ontario, internationally educated nurses (IENs) must hold a current General Certificate of Registration with the CNO. To become eligible for General Class Registration, IENs will need to meet the following eight registration requirements:

Proof of Canadian citizenship, Permanent Residency or authorization to work in Canada.
Completion of a nursing program that is equivalent to an Ontario 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing or a practical nursing diploma.
Evidence of nursing practice in the category for which the IEN is applying within the 3 years prior to issuance of a Certificate of Registration.
Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN for those applying for RN, or the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) for those applying for RPN.
Successful completion of the RN/RPN Jurisprudence Examination.
Evidence of language proficiency in either English or French.
Report past offences, findings and other specified matters.
Meet College requirements related to health and conduct.

The information is clearly for international nurses wanting to work in Canada.

Please read it carefully and digest what it means!

She must re-train and pass examinations in Canada (or USA, UK.)
She can not just walk into a job with only African training!

I am also a psychiatric Nurse who wants to travel to Canada for greener pastures too. So we are in the same shoes.
There are different ways to travel to Canada.
1. Immigration (express entry)
2. Work permit after passing the Registered Psychiatric Nurse examination in Canada. The exam can only be written in Canada.
Either way, she will need to get registered in Canada before she can practice.
There are only 4 Provinces that separate Psychiatric Nurses from the general Nurses. The provinces are Manitoba, Alberta, British Colombia and Saskatchewan.
She should Google about registration as a psychiatric Nurse in Canada and she will get adequate into or she can PM me. I'm at work now so I can't type much. Hope this helps her
