Nigeria's problem has always been that of mismanagement, greed and bias which has led to the implementation of silly policies that have pulled us down for so long and make life hard for the common man.
You are selling assets to revive the economy right? Ok, who will manage the fundsobtained from the sale (i.e. if ever there is a sale cos govt can just transfer ownership to trusted loyals and quote a might amount to fool the public), the same govt that have over the years bn so wasteful with resources?
Put the right policies in place, give jobs to d right people (i.e. put nepotism and favouritism aside) and in no time this country will be on track to be one of the greatest nations in the world.

I think Dangote and CBN governor are just suggesting and I don't think is in their power to action it. We would have allowed the president to respond before raining curses on the President.

There should be a balance to the argument.

Which assets are they considering and on what basis.
Has a due diligence report been conducted to identify lack of alternative funding
Is there an opportunity cost issue here
Most importantly, is this in our best interests as a nation ethically

I think.the last question will be a difficult one to answer looking at the track record set by this government......

Selling assets will not plug a hole in a fast downward spirally economy..
The money will only go where the reserve met in office over 18 months ago went.

What about all the recovered monies:---- whose account is accumulating daily interest on the back of gross national suffering.

Just like Falana has identified, let there be a cut in the overwhelmingly robust salaries and allowances of all the tiers of executive government..... the savings here alone should plug a hole in fastly hemorrhaging resources to some degree. No drama about inability to pass the bill at NASS... due to some constitutional right jizz... Same would have held for sale of national assets!!

A Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana has described the call for the sale of National assets as illegal and against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.



Falana said this in his latest article titled: “Sale Of National Assets Is Illegal”, citing contitutional and historical references.


Recall that Senate President, Business magnate, Aliko Aliyu Dangote including the Central bank Governor have called for the sales of Nation’s assets to revive the ailing economy.


But Mr. Falana in the article said: “The sale of national assets is in total conflict with section 16 of the Constitution, which has prohibited the concentration of the nation’s wealth in the hands of a few people or a group.


“It is pertinent to point out that the suggestion is in total conflict with section 16 of the Constitution which has prohibited the concentration of the nation’s wealth in the hands of a few people or a group”.


“Indeed, by section 44 of the Constitution the nation’s natural resources shall be held in trust for the Nigerian people by the federal government. One would have expected senators who swore to protect the Constitution to kick against the suggestion to sell the assets of the nation to a few people.


“But for selfish considerations a few legislators who may be queuing up to participate in the purchase of the nation’s assets are not prepared to defend the Constitution.


“If the Senate is genuinely desirous to contribute meaningfully to the debate on the economy it should, as a matter of urgency, propose a substantial reduction in the jumbo emoluments of federal legislators which are said to be the highest in the world”, Mr. Falana said.

But we replaced NITEL with GSM - super efficiency will billions contributed through taxes, work for those fabricating mast, supplying diesel, jobs to nigerian
We replaced govt banks with GTB, Zenith, Access etc - much better service and billions paid in taxes
We replaced Nigeria Airways with Arik, Medview, First Nation etc billions paid in taxes with jobs to nigerians
We replaced national fertiliser companies with indorama and now we no longer import fertiliser
we replaced eleme petrochemical and now we no longer import plastic resins
govt hotels are all dead, yet private hotels are all flourishing!!

even the oil is mainly produced by foreign companies. The NPDC/NNPC thats supposed to be our own is inefficient and incompetent and anly produce like 200k barrels of the circa 2mln barrels we produce a day and even at that its being done by service companies not fully by NPDC!!!
NLNG that is very efficient is because government owns only 49% so they are not majority. The JV's where govt owns more than 50% are suffering because government cannot pay its own share of cash calls!!

What the hell are we saying?? What has government ever done that worked??
They should sell all the damned things and collect only taxes.
