The Ore debacle exposed Yorubas as two-tongued people. It is absolutely ridiculous that some Yorubas castigate Ojukwu for invading Ore, yet, Yorubaland was already under occupation. The Northerners, led by Gowon were sitting comfortably calling the shots in Lagos and Ibadan, yet Yorubas were more concerned about Ojukwu. The Northerners literally held the Yorubas hostage in their own land. Ogundipe who was the most senior officer of the time was kicked out of Nigeria while Adeyinka Adebayor who was far senior to Gowon was made an 'ordinary Governor'. Two highly decorated senior Yoruba officers reduced to 'Houseboys' by the Northerners right in Yorubaland.


When it is something that concerns the Northerners, the Yorubas will cow-tow and feign ignorance. When it is something that concerns Igbo's, the Yorubas will suddenly remember they have a tongue.

It is time for Yorubas to drop this "the Northerners are my master" mentality.

The same congregation of strange bed fellows that Nigeria represented in the 60's was the same congregation of strange bed fellows Ojukwu created in Biafra. Who says the ethnic minorities in the Delta area would not have taken up arms to fight the IBO's for their 'oil wealth' if Biafra had won the war?
