This man communicated one simple and very clear message to the world for which he deserves some commendation...

NIGERIA IS CELEBRATING IN THE MIDST OF TERRIBLE ROT, DECADENCE AND FILTH! THE POLITICAL CLASS ARE ALL DECKED IN FLOWING AGBADA, POPPING BOTTLES OF CHAMPAGNE TO CELEBRATE A COUNTRY THAT THEY HAVE DESTROYED WITH RECKLESS ABANDON!

Only when you see the message will you stop cursing the messenger!

Kudos Rev. Father.
Spot on brother

Chai!! Just imagine the kind of dirt on a major road in the state capital,.if a state capital road, how is the rural areas gonna look like??

It was in ogbete market in enugu that people re selling foodstuff with feaces littered everywhere in the market ,a man was even walking barefooted in the market.

We re know all Aba is the dirtiest city in west africa,

The only place clean in igboland is anambra.maybe that's why the anambra people feels superior among others.

Make I see one useless igbo guy or girl talk say aboki or yoruba dirty in this forum I go bash life out of that dirty thing.

No wonder almost all The south east cities make top 10 most poluted cities in the world.

Surely you must be an art enthusiast
I love figurative poetry...but most Nigerian youths are too shallow to see beyond the melodramatic nature of the photo.

This pains me

I took time to go through all the comments from beginning to end just to dispassionately see the varied reactions of Nigerians to this post. Sadly, some veered off into tribalism and so forth (one of the problem we still have since 1960). I lived with the Chaplain (Canon Chinemerem Uche) and I know how practical he is. Tolulakin has summed it all.

Its a sad reality....but most people who comment here hardly think before they do so. It takes a thinker to appreciate what this man tried to express...

No sane man will attempt to pop a bottle of wine in front of this filth, dressed that way? To what ends except he is trying to pass across an important message he chose not to pass in words.

I want to tip my hat to the man for raising awareness about the need for sanitation in this country. This is why we need to practice true federalism.

While Nigerians celebrated the 56th Independence Day anniversary in different ways which suited them, a clergy at Anglican Diocese of Owerri, Chinemerem Uche, took his own celebration to a whole new level by posing in front of one the "dirtiest" streets (Douglas Road) in Owerri, Imo state, to pop a bottle of wine. See pictures below;

So his church cannot do anything about the rot?
Must the govt do everything?
This to me is a childish act worthy of serious caning
Its the job of the govt to collect trash and sewage. That's how things work in most advanced countries.

The question should be why did this man get himself involved in the politics of Douglas Road. Since I was born Douglas Road has been seen as a dirty ghetto where petty crimes thrive and lowest class of love peddlers reside. The Owerri market is located there and hardly do private drivers use the road. In the past my parents used a diversion beside NEPA to cut Douglas through Royce road and then burst just by New Market but when Rochas Okorocha came in 2011 he constructed an alternative parallel road known as Dee Sam road that bursts directly at Emmanuel college roundabout by Ogbo Osisi Wetheral.

I believe Okorocha will be courageous enough to demolish that Ekeukwu market and reconstruct Douglas Road. He should succeed where others failed no matter the resistance by anti-progress people amongst us.
