Truth is that EPL English Premier League, and those fine stadiums are not run by the government, most beautiful things abroad are not done by the government. I absolutely support the idea if our stadiums will be cleaned everyday, the water in the pool changed, the grass watered daily and other daily demands the Nigerian government cannot do for these stadiums. Most Globacom league teams should be bought by the likes of Dangote, Tinibu, Alakija, we will then have a better league. Just like EPL owned by private individuals. |

Y'all will be complaining about selling National assets this and that, is Nigeria not a capitalist state? Are we not practising liberal democracy? Abi una don forget Adam Smith(father of capitalism) talk say government no get business inside business? The truth is that the people we call leaders ranging from the old ones to the present crop of leaders failed to do the right things, not that the government can't maintain our assets but they lack the ability to maintain and manage our assets properly. When we keep voting for old thugs, miscrea*nts and mediocres who have nothing to offer, so what should we expect from them? It high time we start pushing for young crop leaders who have a lot to offer. #MyOpinion |

Visit Liberty Stadium Ibadan or National Stadium Lagos, and shed tears. Let private businesses run those liabilities, and turn them to money spinners . . . gov't can collect the taxes from profits, provide appropriate regulation, or just maybe at best hold tiny stakes in them. Good riddance . . . |

I think I read somewhere in this report where the minister said "the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the concession of the stadia in 2012." So why blaming the present administration? For trying to implement the concession plan I guess? For me it is a good move sha. Experience has shown that our governments can not manage anything profitably. |

As a matter of urgency, they should also privatise the new high speed rail system before it would be ruined like every other government operated venture. |

The comments should not even be about the right or wrong of selling the two stadiums but rather about the workability of the plan. The critical issue I observe here is the possible inability of the government to find buyers at acceptable price. Put yourself in the position of the probable buyer and the following questions will come to mind; a) How much should I pay for this facility. b) How much will the maintenance cost annually? c) What sporting competitions can generate enough funds to cover the cost of acquisition and keep the facility profitable going forward? The reason why government find it dificult to maintain this stadiums will be the same reason why most potential buyers will stay clear unless the purchase deal permits the buyers to convert the facilities to non-sporting commercial structures (e.g. If I buy the National Stadium at Surulere, Lagos for N8.5B, I will rather convert the main bowl to a ground for social & religious rallies rather than renovate it for football or athletics purposes). If this is the case, then the legacy of the sporting structure is destroyed and it is a loss to all of us. The government is between the devil and the deep blue sea on this one as I feel there will be no buyers for the next 4 years. |
