The banks are not there only for savings and granting loans, they are to invest with the monies in real sectors and create wealth through real estate, agriculture and tourism etc. Our banks in the past are experts in money laundry and give bad loans to politians that will never pay back, and paying themselves huge mouth breaking wages thereby strangulating the economy.
****Swiss banka and the countries economy is simply based on stolen funds from 3rd world countries ...only a foolish ediot govt will destroy it's financial sector in the name of anti corruption. The funds are better off with the banks than cbn...get sense

Apart from the fact that Nigeria Economy is going through hell, Nigerian banks have started turning downward through the left side since 2014 when they brought the bvn policy. The policy had resulted in many customers abandoning their account, some customers dont have accounts & those who had more than one before are now operating one since the bvn policy. Some people now are saving their money at home leading to decrease in investment & lending. All the thieves, armed robbers, fraudsters, corrupt leaders, some foreign investors who used to hide under different account names cant do that any more, in addion to the FG policy of single account. All these led to reduction in the banks assets and profits. And now that economy recession has set in, hope that things will change is not at sight. The banks are now more for businesses and few rich people. As poor as i am, i cant entrust 50kobo of my money with any bank. What happened to occanic...banks is at the corner. ACID TEST will make you run away from banks.

It says, "percent of market share drops", which implies that other banks are getting a larger share of the market, and these top 5 are losing to those banks.

actually, they are there only for savings and granting loans. no Nigerian DMB is allowed to invest in other sectors other than d core banking business of savings and loans.

if any bank wishes to involve itself in other sectors, there must be another registered company who will receive the loan from d banks and invest in the company name.

you can have a look for clarification. That's why you see insurance firms of most DMBs having a different name and registration from its parent bank.

Nothing has changed. The economic reality has changed but our banks have not. Some are still making money the old way (round tripping, etc),

Why won't dey drop, when they have never been doing real banking.

Only deals upon deals.....nonsense

Back then, they mostly focused Oil business men and government stolen funds, now oil is cheaper than pure water and there's no money to be stolen.

Letntye bankers go back to their textbooks and bring out solutions, they will surely find and all will be well.

An average business man will go to them will a genuine business plann with Willings to pay, they won't back him....them big boys will go and they will empty there treasury, loan that won't be serviced or paid back, simply because the big boy knows one of the directors

Nonsense upon rubbish!

Just watch our people will blame the government, as if no be we still be the government, we nor even serious.
