Spy360:My point is that Arsenal is not ready to make a great change. They are complacent. |

raumdeuter:Dayo you posted that Rich list. Don't tell me you can't add. Bayern- £213.7m + £206.7m = £420.4m Arsenal - £215.9m + £196.5m = £412.4m Cleared? On the injuries part, players like Walcott, Welbeck, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox, Rosiscky, just to mention a few were out almost throughout the season. Coupled with UCL commitments it was difficult. Note that I am not giving an excuse, just trying to let you feel the situation on ground then. |

TRendlona:You called it complacency. For us, we are allowing a group of young players mature together. Changing personel every season does no good to team play. A new signing that disrupt team balance, that is why a good manager must carefully pick. Take Liverpool's signing of Benteke as an example. Or Gotze to Bayern. |

kokaneprodigy:Excellent. Many Arsenal fans fail to realise this. They have become gluttons because Wenger has overfed them with constant CL football. Ask a honest Chelsea fan how he feels not playing European football. My brother is a Liverpool fan, and he tells me we are always lucky. |

Spy360:Lemme assume ur joking. The main objective of a team every season is to win all the trophies if possible not raising up young players. I never said changing of personal every season would be would be a great option. My opinion is that Wenger should be sacked and a better coach who knows how to buy the right players should be appointed. Using Benteke as a yardstick doesn't make sense. We see how buying of players has changed many teams over the years. Take Enrique for an example, he bought Suarez and Rakitic in 2015 and these players have played and are still playing a very crucial role in the team. A good season for Arsenal is wen they end up in 3rd or 4th place in the league plus going trophy less. Laurent Blanc, despite that he won the league, he was still sacked becos PSG needs higher taste. Guardiola wasn't really considered as a success in Bayern having won the league in all his seasons there also the local tournament cup and also reaching the semi finals in the CL in all his seasons. They still wanted him to win a CL before he could be considered as a success. Carlo Ancelotti was sacked in Madrid cos he went trophy less that season (CL semi final, 2nd in the league) after he won the CL and copa del rey the previous season. Enrique didn't meet up to our expectation last season and there was little pressure on him cos he didn't win the CL although he won the copa del rey and La liga but the club knows its level this is why we saw him as almost a failure last season. To Arsenal fans, last season was a very successful season for Wenger cos Arsenal ended up second and yet still won nothing. Arsene Wenger won't even spend a season in Madrid if all these happens. Allowing young players to get matured is very good but if u wanna win trophies, I suggest u change the coach and perhaps buy some experienced players to make the team stronger. |

Fans can talk for africa Arsenal board know why they kept wenger ( they'll take what he has done over the years over some trophies ) I may not like him as I used to, but I cannot deny the fact that the man is a superb manager. The reason he survived till now is becuz he met the board's expectations, for 5-f years I'll transfer budget was just 20M ( we never bought a player above 16M until cazorla I think ), we had extremely average players yet top 4 is sure, we sold our best players and Captain every season because we were trying to payback debts. For the record trophies were not our piority during this period everyone knows ( whether you admit it or not, Idgaf ). With the signing of ozil over selling days were behind us, since we started splashing the cash again @ least we got 4 trophies ( 2 FA and 2 shields ). Imagine making top 4 with players like djourou, senderos, denilson, chamakh, andre santos, eboue,Lord bendtner, etc Abeg wenger tried, could he have done better? Maybe. Imagine with the millions of pounds United, liverpool and chelsea have spent, they drop out of top4 or even 8. Like him or hate him, we will go down as one of the best EPL mangers of all time. And yes Madrid wanted him at one point barca too, psg and bayern, even fergie said he wanted wenger to be his successor @ one point ( please google it I dnt have a link for you I read it on goal or somewhere, I'm not giving you BS facts ) |

Spy360:Na Sod dey fall my hand pass on this matter, quite alright Wenger could be stubborn at times, but bulk of the blame for those trophyless years should be put on the owners of the club and Wenger should be cut some slack. I reiterate Wenger over achieved with those lads that period, making it to UCL and never crashing out in the group stages against all odds. No matter how lean and inexperienced the squad was he never played the Europa. I see him as someone that placed the club's ambition at the time before his personal ambition. With the books now looking good At least he's now turning up, we've spent over 50M on 2 experienced DMs this year alone, he signed experienced CB and CF and brought two younger players to be nurtured in CB(Rob Holding) and CF (Asano) depts as well, he sent players with potential but surplus to requirements on loan instead of selling them. This is someone that really cares abt the club's future and not some mercenary. |

kokaneprodigy:During an interview last week, Henry asked Wenger why he sacrificed he career for Arsenal. Wenger replied that he had job offers everywhere but chose to leave his legacy at Arsenal. He continued that his desire was to make Arsenal stable enough to compete with the best in the world with or without him. Henry responded with a 'thank you boss'... But some Arsenal fans would sit at home and be wailing. Mtchew! I only hope they don't realise their folly,... |

Definition of success and failure can be dependent on factors and targets. Watford,Leicester, Everton and Southampton finishing in top 10 can be success to fans and management.. In recent years despite Liverpool having not won the BPL in close to 30 years, the management and the coach disclosed openly that champions league football spot is their target.. LVG even openly admit he would swap getting manU to play UCL football with the FACUP trophy.. Also I have seen Wenger celebrating winning the 4th position at Newcastle than community shield and even the FAcup. So the ambition and targets of clubs differs... Personally, I wouldn't rate Wenger's performance as a failure but a very good and near there performance. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Nobody: 5:37pm On Oct 14, 2016 |
If you wouldn't rate Wenger's performance as a failure then don't compare Arsenal with big teams again. Arsenal should be compared with the likes of Everon, Villarreal, Moncheglabach, Napoli etc |

chrisley024:Careful there mate, I wouldn't add everyone to that list. ... Some of us here know that Arsene might have Been a very good manager in terms of resources but he didn't sacrifice nothing for this club. .... His salary of eight million a year was untouched, rather the fans have been the one doing such a sacrifice with the high ticket fees asked of them over the years. . .... So some times when my fellow fans put Wenger and Sacrifice together, I just laugh. .... He was loyal yes but who wouldn't be for eight million a year? |

solomonbrown64:Real and PSG wanted him and would even pay higher. Why on earth do you think FA wants him to coach England? Think, before the Stadium Project, he won titles, doubles, unbeaten, got to UCL finals where he lost narrowly despite down to 10men against Barca. It was when the project began that the titles stopped and focus moved to finishing 4th. Paying the debt meant selling his best players, getting no more transfer funds etc. How many times must I explain this? If you rate him as a failure well that's your opinion but it's irrelevant. Those to whose opinions are relevant think he is the best. So sorry. |

Spy360:Look mate, you misinterpret what I wrote earlier... .... I never said he was a failure, I actually said he managed our resources well especially around the stadium debt period but I am only saying that he didn't sacrifice nothing to the new state of the club today... ...... And please stop with the line of Psg wanted him and all that. Not leaving us for those clubs wasn't a sacrifice, it was just a choice. Besides, he was well paid by his employers at Arsenal and given free rein, the kind of power some certain managers will kill for today.. .... Leicester city won the league with average players, hell, Athletico Madrid did the same thing in Spain with an average squad too. So the talk on stadium debt stopping him from getting tropics is stale and not an excuse at all... .... Wenger is a good manager no doubt but he didn't sacrifice anything to where the club is today, that's my point. |

solomonbrown64:It's a sacrifice to stay in a top club having in which you received no transfer funds but rather or even worse have to sell your best every summer. The likes of Jose, Pep, Carlo, LVG, Conte and most top managers wouldn't do it- not when they could get offers else where. Do you know why Conte left Juve? Answer: not enough transfer funds. Hell even Steve Bruce left Hull City- a small club due to no transfers. Guy you wicked o! |
