12inches1: Bros u are a nigerian also, invest in the north na abi anybody is stoping you. Dangote has done a lot for our economy if we hav 5 investors like him we would hav been better of. He sees opportunies and he utilizes them. Ok nigerians need rice, tomatoes infact all. Agric products now better invest in were there is need now o no be wen dangote open rice processing plant or groundnut plant YOU and ur type go com start de talk monopoly. The truth is he has been loyal to our economy even wen other investors are running away he sees reasons and opportunities. 3 Likes |

obailala: I never said he did. He definitely had the backing of most governments. Ever read of what happened to Soviet Union when it broke up? Most monopolies have the backing of the government. If monopoly is allowed to continue, large percentage of employees will earn petty wages/salary while few will earn more. No competition to threaten the market holders. Not too far example is MTN and Globacom. MTN insisted that PSB is not possible until Globacom came and hit the market. Where do you think we would have been of there was no competition? How many examples should I cite? Coca Cola, 7Up Bottling Company, Toyota, Hyundai? Let competition thrive and the consumers will know the best place to pitch their tent. Like I said earlier, I like his business acumen. Exploring opportunities. Ciao. I hope we disagree to agree. |

Dumb ass I'm in graduate school in the U.S. In Engineering for that matter. Im way more exposed than you but that is besides the point. Is Dangote the only rich man in Nigeria? Why does only dangote enjoy this kind of support from FG if not for his monopolizing business model. Is it not the other time he wanted to buy NLNG? Or he was trying to kick ibeto cement out of business through unfair practices. What you do not uderstand that is that monopoly doesnt help the economy in general. That is why countries like U.S have anti-trust laws that promote fair competition for the benefit of consumers and the economy. So if dangote ends up cornering the whole business sector in Nigeria, that will not benefit anyone or the country. But people like you will keep hailing him to your detriment. Dangote made most of his money in Nigeria and should invest in Nigeria. Has he exhausted all investment opportunities in Nigeria or in Africa? Yes it's his money but he made it from the country. Another example is DSTV(multichoice). That is why you're forced to pay 13k. No competition. dfrost: |

12inches1: You have just displayed absolute ignorance of DIL business strategies. DIL is in business to make profit and Corporate Social Responsibility only comes second. This current investment in Switzerland is to help DIL leverage on the technical knowhow of the firm in gas production which in the long run will Impact Nigeria economy positively. Hey guy! Watch out for DIL in the next 3years and you will be proud of the gut. |

Nice move. At least now our fellow Nigerians won't ask for his head on a stick for suggesting that Govt should sell some state assets. Afterall this his latest acquisition is not owned by Nigeria. To cut the long story short. He will move the gas through the sub sea pipes he is already laying under the sea and sell to fellow Nigerians. The upside for him is that the coy will produce gas using the latest technology meaning that production will be optimally efficient and cheaper too compared to the out dated technology we use here and not to mention our myopic brothers in the Niger Delta who are busy blowing up pipelines. At the end of the day, Dangote will continue to smile to the bank. As he has rightly mentioned in one of his interviews, the best time to invest in any economy is a down turn period when asset prices are really depressed. Let's just watch what will happen to his tangible networth when the economy recovers. Another downside for us which is a quickwin for Dangote on this pruchase is this. He will be able to bring to bring in gas to Nigeria and other parts of West Africa at relatively cheaper prices and NLNG won't be able to compete because of the huge cost of production and as usual he will use price as a winning factor. I guess when he advised government to sell some assets he was merely giving Nigerian a heads up because I am sure this deal would have been in the pipeline for a while. More so, I gather that he acquired the gas plant at a huge discount as most of these countries in the EU are starting to embrace more eco friendly ways of electricity generation esp wind, solar and ocean waves. The CEO of FaceBook practically controls the entire social media platform yet we all praise him. Same for Bill Gates of Microsoft and the late Steve Jobs of Apple. But the moment we have our very own trying to push boundaries, we are quick to start raining curses and saying he is a monopolist. At least now nobody can come and say that Dangote has plans to cheat the govt or the Niger Delta or Nigerians because the gas plant is not a state owned assets. May God open our eyes of understanding and God bless Nigeria. |

Do not be mistaken, nobody is against him. I think he has been allowed to monopolize the market by government. Why should only him be the biggest merchandise in Nigeria? Certain things should initiate questioning. How can a country grow with only one man being given the gift to prosper without questioning. OJUcrook: |
