It's not about Economical Development but Economical Growth,yes we have overtaken South Africa but an average Nigerian still live below 1dollar per day....how can you equate that to the preached development when 90% of Nigerians wallow in abject poverty. We need to do more than relying on these figures. Inflation is not 18%, what is the government doing about that?

Nigeria's economy is big but how much of it translates into the lower stratum of society.

Big but not as nearly as effective as Kenya for example.

Unstable power grid, bad roads, horrible health infrastructure, low quality education, unpredicable security apparatus and most important political uncertainty.

Generally there is recession in the globe just that it varies in countries. That of Nigeria is quite heavy due to our over-reliance on oil hence a monopolised economy. We hope to see a government that will harness other untapped resources in the country such as Agriculture, Natural resources, Information Technology and other mainstreams, not just to stay as Africa giant but to compete with other developed countries in the world but it's a pity we have never had good leadership in power since independence.

Well said, if we ever lived true to the world's expectation of us, we should be at the minimum, a trillion dollar economy -- and I mean worst case scenario.

Like some commenter pointed out: Lagos' pulling Nigeria's weight at the moment.

And with recent developments between Lagos and Ogun states, the GDP combined of both states could well be comfortably challenging for 2nd or 3rd largest economy in Africa in some few years to come.

nigeria has more than triple of south african's population.

But most importantly is that there is hunger in the nigeria.
People are dying of no food to eat.

The United States, China and Japan maintained their spots as the largest economies in the world, with a GDP of $18.561 trillion, $11.391 trillion and $4.73 trillion respectively.

USA and China are suppose to be continents not countries, there are state in both countries that are more than Nigeria, my respect goes to Japan, despite it small size it is the third largest economy, largely due to utilization of human resources
