Just thinking.. Kuwaiti dinar is the highest valued currency in the world, while crude oil accounts for over 90% of the country's export, it also lives mainly on imported products.

How is that? And why are we (naija) here?
they import too but here in Nigeria, we export oil only to get it refined and bring it back to the country as importation. what we need now is to improve our refineries so that the cost of export, and later importing would be eradicated

Its encouraging but it has its downturn! Have you wondered why palm oil is too costly in your local market? Middlemen prefer exporting than selling at the local market. They fix the price according to the prevailing black market exchange rate
bros I'm into gathering palm oil business locally but I want to learn d trade of exportation of palm oil any ideas?

This is very good. But it looks as if a few Nigerians are reaping the benefit of this new opportunities. It is time for our youth to understand farm produce, processing and exporting as a way to increase their earning power. It will be nice if some youth also go into research on things to export and how to go about it and charge consultation training to those that are interested in the trade.

Lastly, it is time for every Nairaland to study AGOA (Africa Growth and Opportunity Act) and to visit their office in Abuja. Here, all the agricultural products that American government wants to buy from Nigeria are listed. Sadly, we have not be able to meet up to 20% of what American are willing to buy from us. Time to seize opportunity friends!

This is American Law signed since 2000 and renewed till 2025. Goodluck Nairalanders
Cool... This is just what I need. But my major concern is sourcing customers who would buy my goods, I'm gathering information on Palmoil and one other agroallied product. You think AGOA bridges that gap too or do you have a hint to go about it!?

Of course. The packaging and quality standard of your produce is very important for exportation. If you visit AGOA office in abuja, they will sure help you and connect you to international buyer. The agreement is there already just like the crude sale agreement Naija has with different countries, just that very few people are fulfilling it.

They put aside enough money for the rainy days which have now come. They can continue importing because they have the dollars to do so. Nigeria put NOTHING! aside. Our Phd holder was busy sharing our commonwealth with obas and his PDP people.
That's the difference..

Only achara, ogbono, nli aku, egusi and other "less oil meals" on export.

Food prices may not come down since a lot of the local produce is now being exported for foreign currency.

The recession seems to be resetting the brains of Nigerians; if only food prices could come down a little to reduce the hunger, then this recession would surely be the best blessing that has happened to Nigeria lately.

Consider these.... Kuwait is a small country in size.... it's natural resources are oil and gas and those they are exploiting to the max.... no other option. They have no other option than to import most of their needs and wants. The population is very small.... just over 4 million... the value of their exports wayyyyyy exceeds the value of their imports making their currency that strong. Most importantly...they use their reserves to develop their country and not squander it like we do.

@topic... this recession and the devaluation of the naira is a blessing in disguise.... it is resetting the mentality of many who think of importing only.

I have said it several times. To get to a successful land, you are definitely not going to appear to people as a normal person from the onset.
therefore, if this is the result of Buhari being sick in the brain as wailers claim, he has better continue to be "sick" upstairs until he leads us to that successful land.
Any right thinking Nigerian knows that the certificateless Buhari is doing something better than the other PhD student.
U were sounding a Lil sensible until u mentioned "the other PhD student.

Of course they do. just google AGOA. You will see. Other sahara Africa countries have taken advantage of this opportunity but us. I got to know about it around 2007 when I was assisting a social science lady on AGOA project. I realised people are even paid by Nigeria government to promote this knowledge. sadly, they just don't do anything to orientate the populace.
heard about agoa , how can they be of help to a new start up?

While "hunger discovers talent " is true in this situation, yes it is the doggedness of Nigerians and her survival instincts that is responsible, it shouldnt be credited to this gov't becos this administration have no concrete policies to encourage or give incentives to Agro and export business.

Kudos to Nigerians for this effort cos I believe our destinies is in our hands.

No.
How do you encourage people to INVEST in agriculture and agro-processing big time if they cannot make good profit from the business?
You should worry more on people being paid a good salary promptly as EMPLOYMENT increases and opportunities for JOBS grow with continuously improving exports and manufacturing that uses derivatives of the plantations.
We also need to REDUCE the bogus salaries we pay to our public servants aka political jobbers.
There is no reason why the president and senators etc should earn more than N1,000,000 since the highest paid civil servant hardly earns HALF of that amount.
I wonder if these exporters are paying their correct TAX amounts. Otherwise they should be JAILED sharperly.

They have a manual of sort that specify the goods, quality, processing and packaging required for export. They will basically connect u with American buyer. But you must be able to meet a target supply just as Nigeria supply crude daily. The office is in Abuja

You can form a cooperative group with us friends and pool resources together to achieve this. It's really painful to note that 90% of import containers into Nigerian are transported back oversea empty! So they add a double shipping cost on these goods them import. Meanwhile many other country are able to match import with counter export.

2 reasons
first kuwait is a small country with population less than Lagos state and oil export more than Nigeria. imagine Lagos making the kind money Nigeria is making.
There was a time when kuwait's car population was more than it's human population. That was why saddam wanted to take over the country and with American interests it led to the gulf war
Secondly our past government failed to develop our infrastructure. So the present day government is spending money meant for our foreign reserve to develop infrastructure.

I can't fault the statistics but I can say export in SAHCOL and NAHCO have received a new lease of life and import is gradually dying a slow death.
