Sorry, I had a belief, a strong one just like every other Christian born in a Christian home.
Being born into a Christian home doesn't make you a Christian, you just followed your parents religion, you never had that personal relationship with Him, what you need is an encounter with that one true God(JESUS). Denying the existence of Jesus doesn't make him go away,it only means no amount of evidence will convince you.Jesus exist whether you like it or not...I pray he grants you wisdom.

You are an Atheist in disguise trying hard to spoil the mind of so many Christians. But I want you to understand that there's God and there's Satan. It's not by force to worship God, the choice is yours but as for me a former atheist, I HAVE MY MIND MADE UP AND I WILL NOT LOOK BACK IN WORSHIPING GOD.

You're not alone bro
I'm gradually pulling away from religion, nothing fascinates me about going to church unlike before. Christians are suffering cos of religion, Pastors aren't helping matters at all cos they seem bigger than God. What's d essence of going to church when d messages preached are repetition of previous messages? I just hope I don't slip away fully
My dear, don't be deceived remain with God and you shall find peace. What's happening to you is that you have not allowed the word of God to make any impact in you.

John 20 :29

Jesus said unto him, “Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed.”

Why do you think God appearing to someone will make his unbelief disappear ?

Take a look at Jonah

[u]Jonah 1: 1-3 [/uxz
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

Jonah received a ministration directly from God yet he disobeyed God and bolted .

Adam and Eve were with God in the Garden yet they disobeyed .

God appearing to Him isn't certainty that anything will change .
But why can't God appear to people to convince them and save them from hell.

There are several billions of people on the wrong track who think they are on the right track

Yes I agree with you. But I was an 'active' Christian. I was captain in our children department then. I participated and represented RCCG East 1 province in children's bible quiz severally, even at National convention in the camp. I was an active chorister. I used to sweep and clean the church premises every Saturday with my parents and siblings. Anyone who knows me can attest.
Brother, he got you. He was able make you confess that you were never really a Christian. All the above listed attributes and activities of yours does not make anyone a Christian. I really like your politeness but if this statements are what made you call yourself a Christian. It means you were never one.

i want to ask three questions!

(1) how often do you fast?

(2) do you pray at least 10times a day?

(3) do you distance yourself from sin?

you don't do all these things and you expect GOD to show itself to you! - scientists have tried their best to find where GOD is really is but all to no avail so they conclude that there's no GOD!

just because people Don't see GOD Face to face so they have a mere intuition that GOD Doesn't exist - but funny enough you people have never seen devil in person yet you believe he exist, every bad thing that happen to you, you believe its always the handiwork of devil.

try to do all those 3 aforementioned list up there, and i asure you that GOD will see you in spirit and he will make you understand everything.

i am a living testimony
God bless u brother for this. To the OP I wld say his experience isn't strange. A number of us had been there.

Um, I don't seem to have experienced what you folks are talking about. Becoming an atheist didn't take me to cloud 9 or anything like that.
Atheism was one part. Studying how planets and planetary life evolves was another for me. From supernovas that created the planets and elements, to four planetary extinctions that gave humans a chance to grow.
Life is all connected, and death only brings more life.

Only to non atheist. I once thought it was too. Until I became one myself. Study your scriptures, think logically and you'll find what's wrong with religion.

I've allowed d 'word of God' to make impact in me but it hasn't. I've read d Bible with an open mind expecting to see d 'spirit' that inspired d scripture overtake me, yet nothing of such. I hope to remain with God but to keep on going to church, nah!

...Gradually, I had stopped going to my church as frequently as before. They had nothing new to teach me. I also began to form my opinions using empathy, rational enquiry, logic and reason rather than religious dogma. I dropped all my superstitions in favour of evidence about the natural world and things in it. I sought to understand the cause of things rather than stare at them in awe and ascribe them to unseen forces. I accepted reality, made informed decisions about my life and took responsibility for outcome of these decisions.
I suddenly developed this 'strange' love for all of humanity irrespective of religion, culture and race, as much, I try to make it enjoyable for everyone around me. Afterall, what's the point in hoping for a blissful afterlife while living a miserable life. I never felt so happy with so much satisfaction. Unfortunately, I tend to disagree severally with religious people on some issues, especially family. It's quite disheartening that they perceive me as 'bad' & 'lost'. All these happened within the space of 3 years, just before my graduation.

I joined Nairaland earlier but recently stumbled on a post and to my amazement, I wasn't alone after all. I'd love to met some people here in person e.g Johnny, winner, sharon and Seun. You guys are great. Though the atheists make such sarcastic arguments, their points are valid most of the time, while many Christians know so little about religion. These arguments really did a good job in further weakening my belief in the Bible God. If He is there, he'd understand my reasons for doubting the Bible account of him. He should be a just judge.

If there is a God. It doesn't interfere in human affairs. It isn't good or bad, it simply is what it is.

You are trying to understand the limitless and infinite God with your limited and finite mind.

That will never happen. I can assure you of that. I may have a solution though. But It's in your interest to keep searching. Always better If you found it yourself with the help of God.

The solution lies in the Bible. You only need to know where to search for it. Keep searching.

eternity is endless... but eternity is now.. everything now is eternity... we are already in eternity.. time is just a measurement of events in eternity.

I too had a belief like most people born in a Christian home. When something bad happened, I blamed God. When things went wrong, I blamed him some more.
My parents taught me to pray daily. The bible was the first book I learned to read and I could handle a study before I was 10.

But none of those things made me a believer. I learned that at a conference. Knowing these things about God, and actually believing them are two different things. And the day I became born again was the day I made my own confession of faith, not the confession made on my behalf.
Still, it didn't stop the struggle after a few years. Organised religion became a bore. Church became a bore. It bothered me that I wasn't interested in doing the "Christian thing" for months, and so I spoke to a friend.
I got to read CS Lewis "Mere Christianity" and a bit more of his writings. I understood that God was taking me on a different path from the one I used to know -- our Christian journeys are always individually different. And I let Him do that.

OP, I don't know if this is how you feel, but if it is, I hope that you allow God walk you through it. He exists. He's alive and wants to make himself 'known' to you. The bible attests to it. If you draw near to Him, he will draw near to you in turn.
He isn't a slot machine where you place all your goodwill and expect favour. He's gracious and merciful and loving. Please let that God, the one I know, help you find him.

Don't give up yet. If you're desperately in need of help, then say a desperate prayer to him. I should tell you that having a conversation with an atheist led me to my point of confusion and unbelief. I love this guys. By making you question your 'truth' they push you to reconsider whatever institution you've placed your hope, and if you can persevere, darling, your faith will be stronger than ever. I lost that friend and I mourned him for the afterlife we might never see.
But that's not the important thing here. Walk with God, only now, let Him lead. It will be hard, but you will learn so much his love will overwhelm you.
Open your eyes to your environment, there is so much you will learn by observing the world He made.

I pray you find the peace and hope and joy that His salvation brings.
Please don't give up yet. God hasn't given up on you.

I went to church for 16 years but I cannot say that I every really believed--once I was old enough I quit going and have not gone back, and I am so glad I had that choice. Am now agnostic atheist and that has not changed in 20 years.

Want to prove that your god is real? Bring a testable hypothesis and we can set up an experiment. Otherwise it is just an empty claim. I would love for some Christian to show me the souls of dead Christians in heaven and the souls of non-Christians in hell. That would be convincing. Same with the Muslims. But they can't even show me any evidence of heaven or hell.....

Atheists are confused people who don't understand that spiritual realities can't be experienced from the level of the physical.
