Please the 5days they give for you to complete your IELTS registration after your initial online registration, is Saturday and Sunday included in the days count?

Let me know so that weekend will not affect me.

Thanks in advance.

@mannimakerjnr

You can't earn AUS $1000 in a week on a 20hrs part time work. From her calculation you will be paid $65- $70 per hour to earn $1000 after tax or $50 cash in hand per hour or on your ABN.

That's absolutely true but she actually stated $1000 per month which is highly possible.
Students working 20hrs a week could earn on the average of $1500 monthly but not weekly

Sorry my bad. I must have misread per week instead of month.
Yea on that ground its very possible. The truth again is most students work over 20hours a week. The government doesn't really care as long as you pay you tax, although they do raid onces in a while especially in big cities.

Deducted directly from your income before you are paid. The employer does that on behalf of ATO

Paid weekly by your employer and the balance to your account.
At the end of the year,
You pay no tax on incomes below $18200 pa
You pay 19c for any $1 earned after $18201.
That calculation applys to the rest of income earned on the table.

As long as you have a valid student visa, your spouse can work 24hours./round the clock No condition/work limitation on your spouse.

You getting it wrong, a spouse of Msc student can also work for unlimited hours, restrictions are for diploma, tafe etc.

Hello All.. I am a newbie here and have been following the thread silently. You guys are doing so well with the information on the thread... It will also be very good if you can shed more light on how many hours a student can work, how strict the govt. can be if students work longer hours, what is the min pay per hour and the possibility of completing tuition fee while working as you study.

@the gurus in the house please inform us on this as it will guide us in our plans.

God bless.

40hrs per fortnight meaning you can work 40hrs within two weeks E.g 30hours in 1st week and 10hours in 2nd week

You can't pay your school with part time job just 10 to 30% of it and it's only possible during holidays when unlimited hours is allowed and if you work over the hours get caught and meet yourself in Nigeria

No limitation if the primary applicant is a masters or phd student.
There is a 40hrs clause for tafe or degree students spouse or dependants.

Work conditions for student visa holders

If you are a student visa holder, you and your dependent family members have permission to work included with your visa. You and your family members must not breach the work conditions that apply to their student visa. Students and their families must not breach the work conditions that apply to their student visa.

Collapse all
Work conditions for student visa holders
You cannot work until you have commenced your course in Australia. Once your course has commenced you are permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when your course is in session, and unlimited hours when your course is not in session.

Work that is a formal registered part of your course is not included in the limit of 40 hours per fortnight.
Voluntary, unpaid work, is not included in the limit of 40 hours per fortnight if it:
is of benefit to the community
is for a non-profit organisation
is genuinely voluntary (that is, you are not paid either in cash or other—board and lodging is acceptable).
If the voluntary work could have been undertaken by an Australian resident who would have received a wage, then this is included in the 40 hours.
If you are a postgraduate research student:
you can work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight during any preliminary courses you undertake
if you have commenced your masters by research or doctoral degree in Australia, there is no limit on the number of hours you may work.

Family members granted permission to work
Family members:

must not start work until the primary visa holder has commenced their course in Australia
can work up to 40 hours per fortnight at all times unless the primary visa holder has commenced a course towards a masters or doctoral degree and holds a Student visa (subclass 500). In this case there is no limit on the number of hours a family member might work.
