I developed a website for someone who is a middleman between I (the developer) and the owner.

But he is presenting himself to the owner as the web developer/designer. He has gotten the hosting and domain already and now he said the owner wants him to upload to the hosting he has already bought before he pays him. And it is from whatever is paid that he will also pay me.

My issue now is I don't know him before as this is our first project together. If I go ahead to give him the design, I am afraid I may start hearing another story. And he said the owner who is a novice does not want to check the design on any other sub-domain but his own.

Is there a script like a backdoor that I can secretly include in my design (before giving it to them) and later use the backdoor to get access back to my design and hack it or wipe it off without knowing their cpanel password, in-case they refuse to pay me later.

Please help on this.

Tell him to give you all the details of the Cpanel if he's not going to pay you now before the job is done... I've experienced something like this before, when the story don dey too much I wiped the damn site till my money was breathing in my account.... Tell him to either pay you for the job from his pocket or collect all the necessary details, (cpanel and co) ,then you change the password. That way you are in control till your money is paid.

He might be watching this threading...
but, if he is not that techy, I dnt think you will need to stress yourself, just add an FTP account to access the root... then if any of what you are afraid of comes up, boom! just rename a folder or replace the index with an empty file...
BTW, why are you suspicious..?

I support the ftp account.

Thanks for those advices.

@mokoshalb, I don't think the person is on nairaland. Then can you suggest an FTP script for such or explain more on that. Thanks so much.

@JeffreyJamez, they can easily change the password, since they bought it themselves. The web hosting provider will change it for them if they request for it, and the middleman is not a novice.

do a 302 redirect on the client's end to your account. that way the site loads from your end on his.

The truth is you can NEVER trust anyone with money. No one likes to loose money even if it's for a business. Therefore definitely no one likes to pay back no matter how big they are. People have different levels of self control, that's why some can still pay back.

OP, I don't see any reason why they would not want to see it in a sub domain first (IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE). If I were you, I would tell them that's the company's policy and if he doesn't still agree, then you don't go ahead with the business. You can't breach your company's policy.... simple

At the worst, I support JeffreyJamez's suggestion.

grin I like working for these kind of people... no problem I'd give him the "Website" and ask for my money, he's free to change the cpanel password (claim Mr smart) but I bet him, he'd go to jail much later.

I remember when I did something of this sort for a guy on NL here. The idiot was proving to be very smart. I gave him the job, he immediately changed the cpanel password. Unknown to him, my personal coded backdoor was in the server. I just downloaded and deleted the files from my backdoor, included a new index.php for him which was blank. The owner of the website started threatening him... grin no be human being call am tell am make em pay my cash to my account. And he gave me the new pass for the ftp. grin

Just don't be a fool sha. These days everybody day fine who them go use shine.
