Dear NL,

Trust you all are doing great? I have been quite reluctant in putting up this post but I guess I just have to seeing that I was first motivated by the experiences of most of you here.

So my cousin & I decided to go into farming full scale lately & we took a loan from my dad.

Our first major challenge was land as the land we planned on using got submerged by water. We were to rent an acre of land. According to other farmers there, it happens once in four years. Since the water level might not go down anytime soon, we opted in getting a two plots of land somewhere close to the house.

We got some Yoruba guys to clear. That was our first mistake coz those guys made so much mouth but the clearing was nothing to write home about. We had to pay someone else to help us clear the land properly.

Next was getting the seeds, which we got at ADP at Oko-Oba.

After planting, we noticed not all of them germinated & we're guessing it's the depth in which we planted or maybe lack of water.

The plants are 2weekz old & we have sprayed herbicide on them. Earlier today, we tried wedding in preparation of spraying fertilizer next week.

Our major challenge now is that some plants are turning yellow while some are still small.

Please experts on water melon farming what do you think is the problem?

the watermelon lord is here... from your write up shows how innocent and naive u are in the cultivating of watermelon... did I just hear u say u spread herbicides on ur crops? any way if that's what u spread on ur crops forget it ... u have killed them all. I pray its some thing else u spread on them... secondly u don't just buy anyhow seeds... there are hybride seeds developed for each season dry and raining season... any way I don't know what specie u have with u... wish I could tutor u but... many things are involved also. for the yellow leaves, what fertilizer have u applied since planting? and what fungicides have u used? if u have used any what quantity did u apply? with the answers I can prescribe treatment for them b4 u run away from farming hahahaha... good luck bro

Thanks for your response. It is actually insecticide not herbicide.

We are yet to apply fertilizer, hoping to do so this week's Tuesday.

@Op: Greetings

You have done well to practice crop production.

Can you please answer these questions with sincerity?

Did you do a soil test?

How did you know the best crop to plant on the soil?

What informed your choice of fertilizer?

At what rate would your fertilizer application be?

Let me stop here, please. Insult not intended.

God bless your work,

Sincerely

Hello there,

Thanks for dropping by.

No, there wasn't any test done on the soil.

Yet to apply fertiziler but advice I got says NPK 20:20:20 two weeks after planting & one more after 4 weeks.

Any advice or comment would be highly appreciated.

Thanks
