Senator Dino Melaye who represents Kogi west in the senate is poised to sponsor a bill against tribal marks after seeing the photo above. Melaye called on Nigerians via twitter to support his bill which will prevent babies and adults from going through facial mutilation and excruciating pain.

We have more pressing issues in this country right
now than attacking traditional values and norms. In as much as his "quest" may be borne out of good intent, I'm very sure when his constituency elected him into the senate, this was not what they had in mind.
Second, the practice of killing flies with sledgehammers should be discouraged in this country. The fact that a particular family or tribe has decided to "take it to the next level" does not mean a harmless tradition should be wiped out altogether. On many occasions you don't even know it is there unless you look very closely.
