I'm am a student of quantity surveying technology. I just wanted to know if quantity surveying is a good occupation in Nigeria because we are not given much credit in d construction industry it all goes to the architects builders and civil engineers. please graduates of quantity surveying what's your say on this and does it pay well. 2 Likes |

guy pls pursue that career diligently, there are less than 2000 registered quantity surveyors in Nigeria, no matter what if u r really good at it u will make head way, and try to start ur master ur excel spread sheet 9 Likes |

My candid advice to you is to be serious with your studies. Ensure you get to know the technicalities of the profession (Measurement, Building Up Rates, Valuation, Final Account et al). Everything is just unnecessarily frustrating in 9ja. Except politics. It should be about imbibing competence & professionalism, to produce able people to drive economic growth. Not delaying people's progress through bureaucratic huddles. Whatever the discipline. Considering how little of our land is properly surveyed, we need surveyors to do it. I know of QS graduates now in banking and other areas. Some not happy but need the money. With determination & persistence, you can go very far with surveyor career. 1 Like |

dopedan:  Guy.There is a difference between certificate and Sabi ficate. Professional jobs when practiced well would go a long way to sustain you even after retirement from a good payed job.The attitude in Nigeria is that we yearn for good paying jobs.The NCC,PENCOM,PEF,DPR,NNPC etc. But what becomes of you after retirement with a huge sum of money (if at all saved) without being street wise? Na small boys go help you finish the money. My dad retired back in 2007,then I had almost finished university.He got all his entitlement and other fringe benefits to his full advantage.Few years after that, the monies finished, due to bad investments.BUT he had been practicing his profession even before he enrolled in public service. As i write, he has so many on going projects across Nigeria that I can recall, up and till the moment.He told me that the money he made, he cannot have gotten such legitimately in his civil service years.Consultancy pay is not as you may envisage, but it is steady and may increase depending on how good you are and your client database. My advice; ensure u learn properly the basics in QS. If U're good and are well positioned and located, u'd be tired of receiving calls to do jobs for clients (except for this recession). Many are in need of our services out there. Been practicing for 5yrs+. Success to u as u depend on God! 1 Like |

I am a qualified Quantity Surveyor. Please, the course is good especially when you are very good in reading and able to interpret drawings, measurement, valuation and final account. The profession is not only limited to consultancy, you can also work in construction companies be it Mechanical, Electrical, Aluminium, oil and gas etc. Just be good in it and you will enjoy it. register with NIQS on time so you can start with your logbook after graduation for exam purposes.
