A friend of mine is about to register for UTME , and he wants to study either civil engineering or quantity surveying, though he knows what both professionals do. I couldn't give him a better option but I promised to get back to him.
I would like to know which career path has a higher job prospect at entry level and which professional is likely to earn more.

Both professions are quite lucrative and rewarding especially in an upward economy when construction work is booming. However, if I'm to advice your friend, I'll suggest civil engineering. The civil engineer in Nigeria is often regarded and engaged as a building engineer, a road/highway engineer, a construction supervisor, a structural design engineer, project managers and even water engineer. On the other hand, the QS is often consigned to just cost estimator and cost control on projects and rarely gets a lead role. Your friend is best advised to choose a profession that offers flexibility and options. Civil Engineering trumps QS in this regard.
