You're not pleased with Denel's commercial activities at all grin
I have immense respect for Denel's manufacturing, fabrication, servicing, research&development, engineering activities etc.
Little for their marketing, commercial, public relations and lobbying activities etc.

Countless peer companies would love to have the position where their "sciences" were stronger than their "humanities".
The SA defence industry is the 18th top arms exporter and the largest in the global South, despite Denel's woeful marketing. We've hardly made a dent in the world's largest importing market, India, despite our excellent political and military relations.

Denel's ranking by profit places it as 98, whilst ranking by revenue tells the different story that the company is not run properly.

We're holding on to IP on so many products we can never have the funds to develop, whilst cheaply giving up IP on others we could've funded and profitably taken to production.
For example, SARA vs Bateleur.
I could go on. So yes, I'm fvcking not pleased with Denel's commercial activities at all.

Ok thanks.

I'll like to ask another question if you don't mind.

Stop displaying your ignorance.

The Presidential Air Fleet is a branch of the Nigerian Air Force. The pilots who fly in the presidential air fleet are usually deployed from the Nigerian Air Force.

Amosu and Badeh both former CAS both flew Eagle One.

If you don't know what you're talking about just keep shut.

Does the Nigerian Air Force have an MRO facility?
Now that's an interesting question.

I know Denel Aviation is the official MRO for the African continent for:
1) Lockheed Martin (C-130);
2) Airbus Helicopters (Puma, Super Puma, all the ex-Eurocopter choppers etc);
3) Russian Helicopters (though I hear this will soon be terminated); and
4) the SAAF Agusta A109 & Super Lynx.

Denel has a facility in Lagos for the C-130s and Super Pumas of the NAF but I'm pretty sure they only handle SA's Agusta products. Which probably means if there's extensive damage to your choppers, Agusta will fly people in or craft will be shipped to Europe.

Although i'm new here, I've been following this thread, on & off for sometime.

I'll like to ask, wasn't there an argument over this between you and Oga Henry a couple months back, I mean over this MRO facility?

Does this mean the little work done on the AW101 was done by Denel or by the Nigerians. I see the crashed chooper has a new Cammo?

Henry claimed a company does the MRO. Someone from NAF told me the same thing. ( I can't remember the company name)

I would not be surprised if we av already started receiving some of these hard wares and they are lying secretly in one airforce hanger.

Last three month NA received some hard from Germany, I suspect them they be de-mining hardware/equipment, till now it has not be officially announced or known. The only thing is that is known was a German airforce transport plane was offloading some equipment under tight security in Abuja international airport.

Yes there was a little disagreement because Henry didn't understand the difference between regular aircraft maintenance (ably undertaken by the NAF in the case then under discussion) and milestone maintenance (undertaken by the manufacturer or their agent, Denel Aviation).

Your crashed Agusta looks like it'll need reconstructive work. I'm not qualified to say how extensive, and I don't know if Denel has the MRO status for Agusta beyond South Africa.
Apart from SA, Algeria is the closest Leonardo facility if your chopper can't be fixed in-country.

Looks fixable to me, although it would cost a lot of money. The main rotor looks damaged means the engine might need changing, no signs of fire damages and the main airframe looks okay. The systems shouldn't be affected although they would need to go through some checks.

I'm sure the helicopter would be fixed as a face saving measure, and to show accountability.

Repairs can be done in country and could be pushed for. AW might be willing to go an extra mile, because of the idea that Nigeria might be getting more helicopters looking at the interests in the Russian platforms. My assertions might be wrong though but let's see how thing pan out.

commercial Airlines and airworthiness authorities casually refer to the detailed inspections as "checks", commonly one of the following: A check, B check, C check, or D check. A and B checks are lighter checks, while C and D are considered heavier checks.

C check
This check puts the aircraft out of service and until it is completed; the aircraft must not leave the maintenance site. It also requires more space than A and B checks. It is, therefore, usually carried out in a hangar at a maintenance base. The time needed to complete such a check is generally 1–2 weeks and the effort involved can require up to 6,000 man-hours.

D check

This is by far the most comprehensive and demanding check for an airplane. It is also known as an IL or "heavy maintenance visit" (HMV). This check occurs approximately every six years.[4] It is a check that more or less takes the entire airplane apart for inspection and overhaul. Even the paint may need to be completely removed for further inspection on the fuselage metal skin. Such a check can generally take up to 50,000 man-hours and 2 months to complete, depending on the aircraft and the number of technicians involved. It also requires the most space of all maintenance checks, and as such must be performed at a suitable maintenance base. The requirements and the tremendous effort involved in this maintenance check make it by far the most expensive, with total costs for a single D check in the million-dollar range

Nigeria doesn't have the technical skill to fix that chopper at that stage of damage. This is not maintenance work or bug removing in the turbines.... This is something else... If the aircraft was more damaged than it is, it wouldn't be fixed at all but it would be just scrapped.

I hope you understand.

I have never heard, of a main airport being closed for hours so that the air force can 'train' for a fly-past for an upcoming Independence holyday... Is there something new they plan to surprize us with or is it a guise for something else especially given that the air force has always used its main airbase as a launchepad for its flypasts in Nairobi or anywhere else in the country.. There is also the moi airbase in Eastleigh in Nairobi, but DoD choses to close a whole main int'l airport for 'training?'

AS KENYA PREPARES FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY WILL JKIA BE SUBJECT TO THREE TEMPORARY CLOSURES (Posted 25th November 2016) Preparations are ongoing for the celebrations of Kenya’s Independence Day on the 12th of December. Subsequently, in order to allow Kenya’s air force to train for their fly by maneuvers on the day, will Jomo Kenyatta International Airport be temporarily closed today, 25th of November from 11.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs noon and then again on the 07th of December during the same time. On Independence Day 12th of December will the same restriction apply and flights into and out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will be delayed accordingly until after the air force’s aerial display is completed. RwandAir has subsequently issued a delay warning for their flight from Entebbe via Nairobi to Kigali to accommodate the airspace closure. Passengers on all other flights scheduled to arrive or depart during the 11 a.m. to 12 noon timeframe are advised to check with their respective airlines to ensure they have up to date flight information for the days in question, 25th November, 07th December and 12th December.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL’S PLANNED CAMPAIGN OF CALUMNY AGAINST THE NIGERIAN ARMY

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a planned release of a report by Amnesty International on an unfounded storyline of mass killings of MASSOB/IPOB protesters by the military between August 2015 and August 2016. We wish to debunk the insinuation that our troops perpetrated the killing of defenceless agitators. This is an outright attempt to tarnish the reputation of the security forces in general and the Nigerian Army in particular, for whatever inexplicable parochial reasons. For umpteenth times, the Nigerian Army has informed the public about the heinous intent of this Non-Governmental Organisation which is never relenting in dabbling into our national security in manners that obliterate objectivity, fairness and simple logic. The evidence of MASSOB/IPOB violent secessionist agitations is widely known across the national and international domains. Their modus operandi has continued to relish violence that threatens national security. Indeed between August 2015 and August 2016, the groups’ violent protests have manifested unimaginable atrocities to unhinge the reign of peace, security and stability in several parts of the South East Nigeria. A number of persons from the settler communities that hailed from other parts of the Country were selected for attack, killed and burnt. Such reign of hate, terror and ethno-religious controversies that portend grave consequences for national security have been averted severally through the responsiveness of the Nigerian Army and members of the security agencies. These security agencies are always targeted for attack by the MASSOB/IPOB instruments of barbarism and cruelty. For instance, in the protests of 30 – 31 May 2016, more than 5 personnel of the Nigeria Police were killed, while several soldiers were wounded, Nigeria Police vehicles were burnt down same as several others of the Nigerian Army that were vandalized. The strategic Niger Bridge at Onitsha came under threat thus leading to disruption of socio-economic activities. In the aftermath of the encounter that ensued between security agencies and MASSOB/IPOB militants many of own troops sustained varying degrees of injury. In addition, the MASSOB/IPOB recurrent use of firearms, crude weapons as well as other cocktails such as acid and dynamites to cause mayhem remain a huge security threat across the Region. In these circumstances, the Nigerian Army under its constitutional mandates for Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA) and Military Aid to Civil Powers (MACP) has continued to act responsively in synergy with other security agencies to de-escalate the series of MASSOB/IPOB violent protests. Instructively, the military and other security agencies exercised maximum restraints despite the flurry of provocative and unjustifiable violence, which MASSOB/IPOB perpetrated. The adherence to Rules of Engagement by the military has been sacrosanct in all of these incidents. Therefore, it is rather unfortunate for the Amnesty International to allow itself to be lured into this cheap and unpopular venture that aims to discredit the undeniable professionalism as well as responsiveness of the Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles. Thank you for your usual cooperation. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations

Only KCAA or KAA have the authorities to approve such a thing (cause a delay).... And since this is not an extraordinary circumstances such as an accident or natural phenomenon like bad weather.... The airport management cannot anounce directly to the public for fear of being held liable for any loss incurred due to cancelled flights or expenses ...thus the airport management would tell all the airlines and leave the responsibility to the airlines affected in that 1 hour delay to find alternatives or work it out with its customers and convince them to be willing to come later and expect to be delayed by an hour, because if there is a 1 hr delay, when the sky is free again, there will be a backlog and all airlines for that day will have to adjust there schedules, KAA won't be able to keep up and inform everyone, only respective airlines can inform thier passengers if there are any changes to their scheduled flights...if KAA were to anaounce that directly to the public without waiting for respective airlines to inform its customers, then then the airlines can hold KAA liable for any losses incured due to perssengers cancelling flights all together for that day
