Just wondering . what is the meaning of Afonja. This has been debated many times in my school .Uniben to be precise..Just yesterday two guys nearly break their heads over each others claim to the true meaning of AFONJA.

This has made me want to ask what really is the true meaning of Afonja .. ?

I go collect gate tickets from this side. The show is about to start. I am waiting for those Yoruba chaps from the SW to respond in kind. I know that one of them will come in here to define Osu.

The word was first used on this forum by Mrchippychappy... this was back when him, myself, Ak47man,Odumchi,Redsun,maziuche,PointB,onlytruth and a very few others were the only Igbos on NL.
Back then Dayokanu,Bkbabe97y,Shymexx and his other account Bittyend,ilekeidi,desola, ektbear and the others were always poking fun at Igbos and the mods weren't doing anything about it. So we had to return the favour. Anyways somewhere along the line Mrchippychappy decided to name them descendants of the historic Yoruba military General(Aare Ona Kakanfo) to the Alaafin of old Oyo empire named Afonja, who conivied with the Fulanis to rebel against the Alaafin, after seceding from the oyo empire, he Ilorin, he invited the Fulanis to come stay in Ilorin with him, but he was assassinated by them and they took over the throne and the town....Hence the on going slave/master relationship between the S.West and the North......
