Morning Nairalanders

So i got this interview with a waste management company coming up tomorrow and i'd really use help on how to go about answering the question "how much do you expect/how much should we pay you" whichever way it comes.

The Advert stated that the salary is attractive and negotiable, which obviously means I'll at least have a say in how much I'll be earning, but the problem is i don't wanna offer cheap labour nor do i want to give the impression that I'm one greedy job seeker (which i probably am cheesy)
Applied for the post of an Environmental Services Supervisor.
Thanks Guys

"how much do you expect/how much should we pay you" ? Ask fist what is the condition of the service and benefit. if dey come up with something or not and the question persist, tell dem u will go with company policy in times of salary range. if dey are not satisfy & d question persist, giv dem salary range 10 naira to 25 naira/negotiable. just my little experienced ooo

lol.. hope i won't be trapping myself asking for 80k when the company probably pays more for the post or even less. But 80k not bad for a start i'd say

ok! I once venture into a waste management company but though the waste here is drilling cuttings. Drilling cuttings gotten via offshore and onshore drilling which are hazardous and its against environmental policy to dump waste anywhere (land or river) coz it will affect d aquatic life and render the land infertile otherwise environmentalist go use you do office. So my company established a relationship with such companies . You dump it in our company, we recycle it , produce like 90percent of the base oil used in drilling which they usually import . Note the recycled one is dpr standard and the pay there is madt!
Hope you ve seen why I asked what kind of waste.

Between you're not really talking about the question at hand sir
"how do i go about not getting under paid and at the same time not asking for too much which might in turn cost me the job".
And what was ur pay like with this drilling cuttings waste management coy?? if u dnt mind

My advice ,as a graduate stake value on yourself mention 120k and above ,remember they will surely negotiate it down,ur best bet is to mention the amount that after negotiation it will be good for you, and check if the company has a prospect accept the offer.

During my last interview with my employer, I was asked how much I was willing to be paid, I told them to pay according to companies payment method/ stipulated amount so they said no that I should mention my price so as to know if they can afford me or not. I told them #164k,the interviewer said it was too much and said we should leave it at 90k. I finally agreed and that was how I got the job.

As a general rule of thumb, never sell yourself short.

However, you have to walk a fine line with that.

You don't want to undersell yourself and end up unsatisfied, or overvalue yourself and lose the opportunity.

All the best.

Do ur research to get the average industry pay for that position.

Try getting info on the coy n their position within the industry( big players pay above the average pay)

Then add 80-120% ontop eventually ya'll settle on 40-50% pay above that average

A simple reply- just say that you know the organisation is a well structured organisation and they will place you fairly and exactly where you belong.

N.B- no matter the amount of money you mention , they will only pay you what they pay people on your grade level except if the firm is not well structured.

Just pose the question back to them.....

Just say.... I believe that this prestigious company or organization have a salary scale for someone of my qualification and skills... May I know the amount they are being paid please...

If they persuade you to quote a figure, then give them a figure that you will know that you were on the safe side...or they will feel they cannot afford you

how much should we pay you mentioning a particular amount may either reduce you or discourage them to hire you. simply tell pay me according to d company's salary structure for my position.

but its always advisable to do a background check/ enquiry for d position ur applying for.

Well, since u said you have 2 years of work experience and u r applying for a supervisory role, I think you should add like 50 to 70k to current salary. Also, you might be asked how much u currently earn and why shud they pay you this much.? Tell them things you can offer the company and relate it to areas and samples of where u'v executed a job as a supervisor. All the best.
