5.56x45 mm is the same round used in Nigerian Tavor-21s which other commando units use.

There are no version chambered in the 5.45mm which is a Russian round. NATO countries use the 5.56x45 mm as a standard not the Russian 5.45×39mm.

And they delivered. They taught that angolan the tactics that worked against UNITA.

Later in sierra leone, Eeben and about 250 men from the executive outcomes, a PMC outfit. Checkmated the hit and run tactics of the RUF rebels.

So after I cajoled our armed forces to hire the guy as an advisor for years on the then influential beegeagles blog, they hired him for just 3 months before the last election or did PMB terminate the contract ??

Anyway, war is a science. Counterinsurgency is probably it's most difficult sub set.
Colonel Eeben's pedigree with the SADF and subsequent exploits in EO and STTEP puts him on the level of US generals Petraeus and Mchrystal.

And time and time again, the nigerian armed forces had a chance to learn from one of the best, but our foolish pride got the best of us. We suffered massive losses in the ecomog wars, because we didn't know counterinsurgency. Twenty years later we are losing our best men and our citizens are being savagely butchered, because we refused to learn . especially after sierra leone.
Now we wonder why the chadians and the Cameroonians ( at least the BIR )field better combat units than us. They too learn from experts when they get a chance.

We think we can just send a batallion to belarus and abracadabra microwave style we gots special forces.

Honestly the man is a proven success when it comes in handling CTCION, militias & guerrilla warfare.

Am a keen follower on Twitter & is blog. These man together with is crew can be hired to train our SF here in Nigeria, it will cut cost training our personnel abroad.

SENSITIZING MILITARY PERSONNEL ON VALUE SYSTEM AND RE-ORIENTATION

The change begins with me in the military becomes imperative in order to reposition, re-professionalise and equally demonstrate our subservient role to the democratic governance. The Armed Forces is one of the key integral institution that the country and its citizen can boast of. Consequently, it must champion the cause of high level degree of efficiency and effectiveness to carry out its constitutional mandates in line with the best global practice.

The Chief of Defence Staff since he assumed office has left no stone unturned in injecting very robust policies both administratively and operationally in line with his vision which is “To Ensure A Well Motivated Trained And Equipped Armed Forces That is Responsive To National Security Commitments”. This can only be achieved if there is total reorientation, change of attitude amongst ranks and files introduction of selfless service, subordination to the political masters and the constitution and most importantly, enhanced civil military relations.

The sensitization which was launched on the 21st of November, 2016 is another milestone in the series of achievements which the current CDS and the military in General have achieved. The Nigerian Armed Forces no doubt has to subject itself to the change mantra in upholding its known ethics of decency, accountability, transparency and prudence towards achieving selfless service to the nation, which is the main keyword. It could be reminded that CDS started this process by holding a procurement seminar. With the myriad of security challenges, and economic slowdown the country is facing, hence the need for this realignment of thinking which could propel positivism for attaining overall national security objectives. All personnel of the armed forces must key to this effort in reviving our ethics, etiquette, regimentation which gives emphasis to integrity, loyalty and respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism. This sensitization campaign will be conducted in all military formations and units in the 6 geopolitical areas across our great country.

Eeben even do there military support in terms non lethal aid is small. They critical partners of ours even do we are non aligned state. Our major Arms provider doesn't support us as partners in these war like they do in Syria because we don't have a Big Russian interest like we did during the civil war.
Currently Nigeria non aligned state & refusal to allow AFCOM base n other factors lead to US drone build up in Niamey / Agadez n Chad

It was the SADF that jumped and helped the Kwachas every time Angola launched ops to move South and capture the entire country.

Eeben was a Lieutenant Colonel not Colonel.
