1. Namibia’s Fairy Circles

The circles in question are so geometric that it’s hard not to think of intelligent hands behind the design, They are actually patches where nothing grows-on a field of grass. The circles have diameters in the range of 10 to 65 feet and are more or less evenly spaced from each other. Spread across thousands of kilometres, these circles baffle scientists no end. That’s not to say that speculations weren’t made regarding their origin-from fungus to poison gas and yes, everyone’s favourite reason for anything mysterious-radiation.

2. Magnetic Hill, Moncton, New Brunswick

A vehicle that’s turned off rolling uphill backwards without a cause is something you might expect to see in a movie. But that’s the kind of wackiness which has made Magnetic Hill a popular tourist destination. Even though the phenomenon was first observed back in the 1930s, the reason for it still remains a mystery.

3. The “ dog suicides” at the Overtoun Bridge

The Overtoun Bridge near Milton, Scotland first gained attention when multiple instances of dogs flinging off the bridge to meet their death were reported in the 1950s and 1960s. There were no external reasons for the dogs to behave in this unusual manner and the incident still remain a mystery. Another factabout the suicides is that mostly, it’s Collies than any other varieties of dogs that flung themselves off the bridge.

4. The floating stones of Death Valley

Endless sand stretches to the horizon in the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley National Park. And then there are also stones that sort of sail over the desert’s surface, leaving a sand trail behind. The mystery behind these floating stones remains unresolved though the prevailing theory is that ice is formed around the stones which lends them mobility.

5. Richat Structure, Mauritania

The Richat Structure- also known as “The eye of the Sahara” is a circular feature found in the Sahara desert. About 50 kilometres across, the feature was first speculated as the result of the impact of an asteroid. It was later argued that the structure was actually formed due to a volcanic eruption. Both the theories didn’t stand up to scientific investigation and now it’s considered as a highly eroded dome of igneous rock. However, even if that’s true it still doesn’t explain the fact that the rings in the structure are equidistant to its centre- something that's highly improbable in a natural structure of the kind it’s theorised to be.

6. Khazakhstan’s sleep epidemic

Kalachi is a small town in Kazakhstanthat would have remained unknown to the rest of the world had it not been for a peculiarity- people of the town have been falling unconscious for hundreds of years, seemingly without any reason! The situation got so bad that the government eventually evacuated the whole town. The effect of radiation from a nearby Uranium mine is given as one possible explanation. However, that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny since another town in the area-much closer to themine in question, remains unaffected. The blood tests of the people who were affected by the ‘sleep epidemic’ didn’t show traces of radiation in the life-fluid either.

7. Hassdalen lights

The night can be creepy but the night sky still remains a canvas for light-filled magic. And in the Heessdalen Valley of Norway, the lights take on a particularly mysterious aspect. Called the Heesdalen lights, these lights appearin different patterns and colours inthe sky. The origin of these lights remains unknown though a popular theory has it that the region is radioactive and the radiation which is carried by dust particles reaches the atmosphere where they explode in a burst of light

8. The Nazca lines of Peru

The Nazca lines are found in an estimated area of 450 square kilometers in an arid coastal region
of Peru. The lines portray creatures
that actually exist and also those
that are purely imaginary. Also, geometric motifs like triangles and
spirals are also to be found among
them. The lines were created sometime between 200 BC and 500
BC- a time when the Nazca lived in
the area. The purpose of the Nazca lines is a mystery archaeologists
haven’t been able to solve yet.
