Thanks Onegai, Soonest, AlphaHandMaiden and Zaynie. I will try to give him water instead at night. When I tried it sometime ago, he refused to take it and woke up fully instead. I have also tried ignoring or cuddling him instead of feeding him and he just cried and became fully awake. I feed him well at night, but no matter how much he eats at night, he still wakes up. Will try with the water again and see how it goes. Thanks once again.

one more thing: if you have the energy - you can allow him play very well in the evening to tire him out.

my dd just started nursery and i have no idea what she does there but when she gets home she is super tired and its a mad dash to get her fed and bathed before the crankiness of sleep rears its head ( i practically have 1 hour or else there is trouble). when she does sleep...... she is like a log, i swear you can hold her up-side-down with one leg and she won't wake up. she be like person wey go run marathon!

just an option to think about.

Good luck.

But come to think of it, he's not 1 yet.... so you might have to bear it till he starts eating heavier foods...

I have tried this too but no matter how tired or full he is, after sleeping for 2hours at most, he wakes up to feed. A friend even suggested I feed him very close to his bed time that he will even sleep while eating. It didn't work. Hmmm! When he was younger, I thought he will start sleeping all through the night once he gets to 6months but here I am. Don't know whether he will change on his own ................ soon.

He's not hungry, your nipples are pacifiers. Which is why I suggested giving him water, nothing interesting to suck on so he goes back to sleep. He will fight it.

Ok thanks. I will try giving him water. Infact, the daddy will do that because if I give him water, he will still be expecting to feed after the water. ( He was sleeping when I saw your reply and woke up a while ago so I gave him water, after he took it, he started pushing me ( his way of telling me he wants to feed when I am carrying him) and crying. So the dad will do the water thing. I just hope that after a week, thing will improve. Thanks for helping.

- feed well right before sleep.
- let him sleep in his own cot. The smell of milk from your bweast might tempt him to wake up more often. He might be a light sleeper.
- cuddle him back to sleep when he wakes up. Hold him to the warm part of you and lull him back to sleep.
- give him water instead of food. Put water in his sippy cup or bottle. Once he wakes up, give it to him and put him back to sleep.

Apart from you being tired which is not nice since you need your energy and alertness to take care of him during the day, he can't continue to feed on a hourly basis, that is a straight road to ObesityLand.

Good luck

Firstly, congrats on the birth of your baby.
May your child always make you happy and proud. Amin

At that age, I feed on demand.
When baby is smacking his lips, rubbing his face on your clothes or sucking on his fingers.... might mean he is ready to eat.

Some people time.... every 3 hours or so. This is usually most effective if baby is bottle fed or if mother works.

That one no get schedule oh! Na on demand.

However i was advised every 2-4 hrs for new borns up to about 8 - 12 weeks. When their stomach sizes increase and they can hold more food and go for longer periods.

But for your sanity, not every cry is hunger. If you just feeding for instance and he starts crying after like an hour, have a series of checks to see what the problem may be.

Check nappy, babies feel wetness and poo differently and some will show their discomfort sooner than others.

check not too hot / cold. I believe the rule is that babies need only one extra layer than you. So if you have on a sweater, she likely needs a blanket over his clothes and if you are only on wrapper for modesty sake.... you may want to omit one later either only vest and socks or just bodysuit with no vest underneath. Just make sure it is not draughty where he is placed so move him away from windows or direct reach of fans and A/C. Aparently the ideal room temperature range for babies is 18oC to 21oC. Before which you need to start adding layers and after which you need to start removing.

Also ensure you dont wear him a hat indoors as babies that age can only regulatr their temperatures through their heads so if the head is covered you risk them overheating.

Check it is not a " i just want you to carry me" cry
Sometimes babies feel they are alone when they cant see you or if it is too quiet. So just placing them somewhere with back ground noise like the tv or radio can help.

If all these fails.... then feed her.

If dhe cries after like 2 hrs, its most likely hunger.

If she is sleeping and is not restless, you can extend it to 4 hours.

And you need to time from the start of each feed.

Zaynie. Welcome back kiss kiss

Ovems. Pele. grin I can completely relate.

All the suggestions and much more given by all the mums here, I tried them all and my son didnt budge. There is nothing you will offer my son at night that he will take apart from breast milk - even formula. I introduced milo when he clocked one, introduced heavier meals but he would still wake up at night to suck (not once, not twice). At the height of desperation, I bought robinson's fruity shoot, caprisonne but he would refuse them all.

At a stage he would pull my top up and be dragging my boobs from my bra. Once he's back from nursery, he won't even wait for me to take off my coat before he starts crying to be breastfed.

I finally had to take the bull by the horn and adopt a 'gangster' technique last week Saturday and today is the 9th day and we are breastmilk free. grin grin

For the first time in monthssssssss, he slept all through the night on Friday.

Phew !!!

Now when he wakes up at night, he eats any snack I offer - sandwich, oats, plantain, etc, he drinks water, we watch "wheels on the bus" for 5-10mins, and he sleeps off. grin grin Tonight, I will be reintroducing him back to his cot. No more co-sleeping as he enjoys placing his head on my chest. cheesy

I will suggest you endure till he's 12 months old. If at 12months, he fails to self wean or you are still adamant on stopping him from breastfeeding, mention my username and I will share my 'gangster' technique. grin

Has anyone ever considered the lack of full sleep to be an Environmental thing? Baby E co-sleeps with us on a Double (or is it Full?) sized bed, dressed in a long onesie pajamas, A.C. and fan on, with a thick duvet and she is a fitful sleeper, waking up for water, kicking about and needing to locate me. Or so I thought. We are at the Grand Mama's house, sleeping on a ginormous King sized bed, no ac only a fan (health reasons), no coverings and dressed in diapers...and she is sleeping through the night, barely waking up to drink or only occasionally looking for me. I think the poor thing was overheated at home all this time. And she did the same when we went to the Big Mama's house: big bed, A.C. far enough to cool but not chill and a duvet not so thick. One of my brothers is like her: will sleep through a cold English winter with a fan and just boxers. Same with my niece: during one winter, her mum brought a portable heater to the room and we slept under duvets. Little girl woke up with nosebleeds. Babies are little human beings and some like it hot and some like it a bit cooler.

I don't know Magodo too well but I suggest you take a cab. Try googling Guest Houses and Hotels in Magodo and give them a call beforehand to find out their nightly rates.

Ovem.s, when your baby wakes up, give him water.

Thanks ma'am, will try and ask Mr google. Although I heard its quite expensive to stay in Magodo, but there are neighboring places like ketu, Maryland, still doing my findings, thought I could get help from reality.

Thanks. Lol @ the gangster technique. I don't want to wean him yet, he is just 9months old. I will stop finally when he is a year +. I just want him to sleep longer or at most all through the night.
Congratz on your son finally sleeping all through the night. When I read to that point, I just felt this joy inside of me as if its my son that slept all through. Hope he is still sleeping all through.
The method I want to try is to abandon him and his father on the bed while I sleep elsewhere. When he wakes up, the father will give him water and put him back to sleep cos if I do it, it will be harder for him to go back without been fed. I pray it works.
Still tell me about the gangster method let me try that too if mine doesn't work.
