anybody can make mistake but I don't understand why people would want to bank on it. If the guy had even sent most of the money and kept like 3k or 4k to himself I can easily ignore. but u decided to send 25k and keep a whole 28k to urself. that's just wickedness. As for the police issue, im trying to work on that.
Sure the guy is a fraudster and wouldn't bulge easily, just involve the SFU of the police as even the bank would be dragging issue as they would claim it's your fault and wouldn't want to divulge sensitive issues to u, like his house address and his BVN, again, the young man might not deposit money in the bank account again, if he has other accounts with other banks, only the SFU can help track that out by pressurizing the bank as if u do it on your own, they would not take it too serious if u are not one of their top branch customers as they would be shifting days for u to come. The SFU and your account officer are those that can nail the guy with immediate alacrity, but if u make a good loving rapport with your account officer, he could assist u real well without u necessarily involving the police if u see no need again.

You do not take what does not belong to you. So if money is paid into your account you were not expecting, your first reaction should be to report to your bank, NOT WITHDRAW THE MONEY, SWITCH OFF YOUR PHONES and BLOCK THE CONTACT FROM WHATSAPP.

Has Nigeria gotten so bad that we cannot tell the difference between right and wrong again?

Hello nairalanders. I need your help and contributions concerning this issue. Had to open a new account for this. Please take your time to read through.
At exactly 3 weeks ago, i made a terrible mistake by sending an amount (#53,000) to a wrong account number.
Immediately, I put a call through to my bank to help reverse the transaction but couldn't reach the customer care representative. I tried several times but exhausted all my credits waiting on the line for someone to pick up. I sent mails and tweets, yet no postive response either.
After about 3 hours i was able to speak with a customer care rep. I explained everything to her, she did a background check, confirmed the transaction but sadly, it was already late, she said the recipient had fully withdrawn the money. My head went blank immediately I heard that. She said they have a team that works on such, and that they will get back to me.
I did a check on the account number i wrongly sent the money to and then I realized it was a nairalander, whom I once paid for his service sometime around middle of this year. I do not know him in person. Then I started searching through for his contacts and luckily I got one. I put a call to him, tried explaining myself but from his tone I realised one would require a long conversation, and also for evidence purposes, I decided to resort to whatsapp. The following are the conversations with him.
please

If u had followed my posts carefully u would have found the answers to your questions.
After he blocked my number last week Thursday, I contacted him two days after, which was on the 26th, that's on saturday. I told him of my intentions to do this and gave him till Sunday the next day to get back to me. He read the message and blocked the number immediately. I created this thread on Sunday the following day which made it exactly 3weeks since I wrongly sent the money.
If he had spoken with me and still assured me that he was willing to pay up, I wouldn't have had any reason to come up here to make all these posts. I was ready to give him even up to a month to fully return the money. But rather, he chose to ignore and blocked all forms of communications with him.

Just read the first page of this thread. However, as others said, the bank should be able to recover this funds for you. You may need to walk into the bank and talk to the right person. Yes, an honest mistake was made on your part, but that certainly does not give the other person the right to the funds. What a slowpoke! Honestly goes a long way in the world. And he is certainly not displaying any of that.

The line between right and wrong has been blurred, criminality has taken over. Have you forgotten that the cleaner that returned millions some time ago was actually lambasted by some low life rogues even on this forum. Nigeria, when did we become like this?

No bank in the world has any power/right to take out any money from somebody's account against their wish.

So sorry, but banks can't do anything in this case.

Where is the future of this country!
if you read my earlier comment you will c where i said i have returned such money before. Weather you like it or not man must always be man. The future of this country does not relys in the affairs of men. But God only. I will only be surprised if a bornagain child of God behaves that way, but a sinner, an unrighteous person must always behaves as one. Hypocrisy is equally bad.

**Sent you an email of his pictures.

He was jobless as at 2 weeks ago (perhaps he is still jobless). He has applied on 100s of Job vacancy threads. .I bet he's incurred debts prior to your money hitting his account; hence, the whole - "there is a sick woman somewhere that needs the money" balderdash.

The supposedly sick woman who needs the money might just be Jeffrey himself.

**I will update this when I have more infos

U get sense so? Lol. You were talking of bank teller, cashier and all when OP clearly stated he made a TF and u still dey make noise here cheesy. What prompted this your bitter response? Na me dey frustrate your life?
Be like u nor get money? Hence u nor dey do transfer. This mistake is not new, and the problem is with the app or the banks keeping beneficiaries for easy access next time. Sometimes name doesn't even show and an app like quickteller will tell u to carry on if you are sure. Have u mistakenly sent a text to a wrong number on your phone before despite it being on your contact list? Stop making a fool of your self on the internet
Uhm I can see I'm right common sense is definitely not common. How old are you. You seriously need some lesson or probably a brain reset. But I suggest the latter

He'd better send every single dime. Don't let him use your money for MMM, Ultimate cycle, betting etc. You've already been too patient with him. Danke

Totally false! Here in the USA, they will take that thing out instantly. Once it can be proofed that a mistake was made. Even if taking the money out puts your bank account in negative. They will do it here for sure.

UPDATE

Hello everyone. I decided to stay quiet all this while just to be sure before putting down these. In my last update, i mentioned the guy contacted me through someone who claimed she was a nairalander that wanted to help. He said he was going to pay some part of the money the following week which was last week Wednesday, with the condition that I have to first apologise to him, then i should pull down this thread. I told him to pay up first and I then i'd do the needful and not the other way round. Up till now, i haven't heard anything from him. Today makes it 2 weeks. I tried to reach out to the nairalander he used to contact me, but she didnt respond.

So, i have decided not to use any form of force. I really don't have all the energy and time for that, especially in a country as ours where everything is complicated. With that, i have decided to let it all go. I have counted it as my loss, perhaps a price to pay for my mistake. So that i can focus on how to pay the real owner his money. U might call me silly, but I'm glad I'm able to show everyone here the kind of person he truly is, and good the Internet never forgets.

Thanks everyone for ur various contributions, i truly appreciate. And thanks to the mod that helped push this to the FP. I wish u all a happy new year in advance.

Sorry about how it all played out in the end.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he's even a worker in his Church. That's the average Nigerian for you, overtly religious but not reflected in his everyday dealings with people. "How can you claim to love God you do not see if you don't love your brother you see everyday?" - 1 John 4: 20.
