dude, the book is less than a week old!

I binge read it. Took me two hours.
Nice she kept a chapter for the other woman. It should have been the other WOMEN. And pleased some women still smell like chocolate in bed. Talk about extra effort at being sensational. kiss
Some women smell like ugwu and stockfish in bed. grin cheesy wink

Hmnnn...females co me ting more than males....well, the truth is I guess women most times just don't know wat comes over them when guys keep hitting the right button, saying the right things.....but there is always a limit...most ladies get to this limit before them eyes open, few are smart to know better....others will choose to close their eyes and ears to the obvious warning signs and proceed into living with the consequences. In all, read all the books....watch all the movies...., we are all individually responsible for the choices we make. Tokes story is heard cos of her personality....thousands of others out there.....let's choose wisely peeps.

But you won't see Nigerians taking this keen interest in other worthy and highly educative books published by young scholars daily, each to his own i know but the level of publicity we give this let's face it ordinary people is alarming, why would i want to read a book that details a persons failed marriage

Now say uncle Olu and aunty Joke decide to write a book on marriage, now that's one I'd spend my money on cus even though they may not be a perfect couple, they've been together long enough and have been a model example of what Marriage in general should be like not some colourful character writing a book and our so called "youths" jumping on the bandwagon like bees to honey

Again to each his/her own i guess

You maybe right! Nobody prays to fail but most times you learn more when you fail than when you succeed. The book,i believe should be a guide to females who are suffering from low self esteem.

From the first page alone I just knew it wasn't romance section. If it was romance section by now all those small small jambite boys forming mysoginist would have yabbed the op and toke sote ehn. Thank the heavens we still have sensible Nairalanders.

No matter how romantic a man is, there's a limit where the woman should draw the line. There were obvious signs that he was cheating even while they were dating. Friends saw him with other woman, she saw messages, even saw some of the women. At one point he gave her an STI and she allegedly had proof he also gave his mistress same so what are we talking about? She saw everything, yet she chose to stick with him believing that he would change. Well, the saying goes, once a cheat, always a cheat.

She said it in the book too that she had self esteem issues, she broke up with Maje but still went back to him many times just because she didn't value herself. To me thats not love or affection or even romance, that is looking down on yourself, seeing yourself as unworthy to stay with a man who loves you and proves it by being loyal
I supporter you * in jenifa's voice* the signs were obvious but she was in love .I blame her more for bringing this upon herself

@skarlett which toke is this? The big time runs girl from Unilag till present? Or which one?

The 12 years spent with Maje was mutually bleeped. Dog meet bitch. How this gal refused to pen even one of her own sugar daddy tale is amazing.

Long story short, Nigerian women are brought up to feel inferior, most have cheating husbands and boyfriends, most won't mind as long as the man has cash to spread. Have you heard anything from Dangote's wife? Or you think Dangote is a saint?

Toke just wanted to live in parkview with the public dick but she was picking most of the bills and she ran cheesy

I pity women sha, esp Naija women.

Like every other Naija woman na, it's 7 women to a man, remember.
If a man sticks to one woman, who would service the others?

Besides, Anita won't even breathe, some side chicks have more class than the wives.

I only pity this Majes children though, no father figure, birthed by a public dick rendering community service to women from all tribes.

It seems you're privvy to the juicier details of the Ayanda and Makinwa family, thats cool but really this is a book review. I did state specifically that I'm not looking at Toke's controversial lifestyle but at the book and the message it passes across to women the world over.

Young women should snap out of this bullshit.

First of all:

Who is Toke?

Toke is a woman desperate for attention. She preaches "One night stand" gospel, the wild life and all sort of "loose life".

She is a hypocritical lady who just want to get away with whatever she does.

You can't just ignore all these.

She's always lived an irresponsible life, her mental psyche doesn't fit into the world she wants.
That's just the truth.

Would rather read men are from Mars, women are from Venus about marriage or encourage ladies to read books on relationships such as
act like a lady think like man by Steve, Why men loves bitches e.t.c rather than a nollywood writing story on failed marriage I wish her all the best

I don't think it was LSE (low self esteem) I think Maje was quite romantic he was every woman's dream, he was worth fighting for,but he wasn't good at keeping his slate clean. He was a fairy tale story but life is no fairy tale.Think about it if a guy told you he doesn't want to disrespect his ex,it definitely would look obvious he respect women but in actual fact he was just acting a line from Robert Greene :The art of Seduction

Women, no matter how intelligent, successful, spiritual, prude, exposed, etc will continue to fall for a man with mastery of sweet words.aka sweetmouth.

Maje must definitely have a way with words.
A true protégé of Greene.

Make she no just mistakingly pick his call otherwise the rollercoaster continues.lol

All this people dissecting shyte.

Toke schemed, manipulated Maje into Marrying her. That one agreed to it because he is not man enough plus he wants to revive his dead career via her contacts. Anita has always being Maje's sweetheart. Toke knew that, Maje knew that. No victim.

Gbam ...u saved me from typing...this is the summary of the book and their life story .

There's no need to apologize dear, i welcome any opportunity to have an enlightening discussion even if our opinions are polar opposites.

I think from her stand point, she decided to tell her side of the story maybe to gain some sympathy, some say its for money but I strongly believe its to speak up for celebrities that have been blamed for the failure of their marriages. Some of the mistakes she made could have been avoided but at that time, according to her, she allowed her heart rule her head.

Plus there is nothing wrong in reinforcing a lesson, she was a relationship expert who dished advice left, right and centre but couldn't follow her own counsel when it came down to it. That is to say, some of us actually know these things but following them nko? That's another ball game entirely.

Your last paragraph is so so true, and I think it's because such people are seen as strong and thus don't need help or advise when encountering challenges making them sink alone and eventually die a cold death (literally). Such is a common life situation where I find everyone running to me for help (of all kinds) and advise yet no one cares to know what I'm going through.

See the thing here and sorry I'm over stretching this discussion but I'm sure without reading that book you knew you had to "love yourself first", a lot of the excerpts I've read are basic things everyone knows and I'm sure there are folks who have/are going through worse in their marriages, the whole book ish and the attention its gotten just gets on my nerves cus she's not really written anything special

But its like you said, she's a public figure so i guess that explains it

I think you shouldn't let the hype about makinwa and the book cloud your judgement about the book.
I'm not a fan of hers. The only time I heard her speak, I wasn't impressed. but I will read her book.
You see, the thing with books is that they are packed with knowledge. knowledge you gain from the author. and knowledge you've always had but never knew u had. u even gain knowledge by disagreeing with the author. you're not expected to nod ur head and concur with every line.
I remember reading Obasanjo's 'my watch' and quickly realizing how self-absorbed and egoistic the man was. While i found the book to be a pathetic ego trip, I still learnt a lot about the man and how easy it was to stumble upon the presidential seat in Nigeria. Crucially, I learnt I was not as good a judge of character as I thought I was!

Toke is and always will be a runs girl. So all these while Maje was playing on and off with her, she never met someone else? Well, it's her book so she can write herself into any convenient role. The victim, the hopeless romantic, the pining loner, whatever rocks her boat.

The truth is, Toke is popular, like her or hate her, she's become a force to reckon with in the TV/Radio industry and who told you we can't learn from failure? We can learn from failure as much as we can success. She didnt write a book on what marriage should look like, she wrote a book on what her marriage was like with a philanderer.

Yes I'm part of the youths jumping the bandwagon of reading the book and even taking my time to review it, you know why? Because knowledge from whatever medium is not wasted. smiley

It's a case of philanderer meets Runs gal who wants to hang out with the classier folks.

sell the book to me, as if you are Toke, in three lines.
beauty degree eloquence and career success is not enough to hold on to a dead marriage espec if it's propelled by desperation, keeping up appearances and low self esteem

However failure in marriage doesn't mean failure as a person or as a woman

My take and conclusion
Some women succeed in their respective careers and fail in their marriage
Some suceed in their marriage but fail in their careers.
Some others suceed at both but if you don't know the intricacies of what let to divorce don't judge because you have no right to moreover you're limited by information if you sit from afar to judge
