The Nigerian Army (NA) has said it has concluded plans to hold 2016 edition of Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) annual conference.
The army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman Kukasheka said in a press statement that the event will take place in Imo state from 4 th to 10 th December, 2016 at Trade and Investment Centre, New Owerri.
The conference which is part of activities in the Nigerian Army’s forecast of events is designed to critically appraise the Army’s activities and Operations in the preceding year as well as make projections for the incoming year.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Consolidating on the Gains of Counter Insurgency Operations Towards Achieving National Security”.
In line with the theme, special emphasis and appraisal of the counter insurgency and military operations in the North - East and South - South regions of the country as well as other operations will feature prominently’’ statement said.
The conference appraisal is aimed at making the NA more responsive in the fulfillment of its constitutional role of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and providing aid to civil authorities.
As part of the NA’s corporate social responsibility and to further enhance civil-military relations, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps (NAMC) will be deployed to selected communities in the region with the view to providing free medical services to the residents.
‘’The medical services to be provided will include free eye screening and provision of glasses, blood screening and administration of drugs where necessary, blood pressure checks, distribution of mosquito nets, counseling services, amongst others’’ the statement added.
President Mohammadu Buhari (GCFR) is expected to be Special Guest of Honour to declare the conference open.

It's a thing of pride to host such event in addition to the economic gains. A lot of money will circulate in the State from the event.

Spare me that, other conferences that where held in the past in other locations have those facilities and accommodation... And there are also other places that might have more accommodation and facilities yet they choose a location in SE...

This is not about owerri but SE

I just hope the sudden romance of fg with SE will yield positive result like upward projectory of development in the region.

Aregbesola the happening governor

I travelled to osun yersteday, infact am typing this from osun state..
And I can categorically state that the state is on auto pilot no local, state or federal presence and just like other sw state except Lagos the state looks deserted. The locals there have this hunger ridden faces while living in a poor environment devoid of tangible infrastructure and development...

Looking upwardly is a cloud of decorated brown roofs adorning the skyline too...

Anyway they aint Doing bad at all. At least they are the only state that has attracted the president in commissioning a private secondary school... Not bad as it seems
