They usually treat themselves. Going to another doctor can mean incompetence, except if its a major illness

Let us get one thing right first –I am not a doctor. Now, that we got that out of the way, I can continue with my article from my perspective as a layman and patient to some doctors. Remember, if there are no patients there would not be need for doctors.

I was very inquisitive as a child with many questions running through my mind, one of the ones I remember vividly is: what happens to the food we ate? Do we have eba in our head for example or rice in our hands? Of course, I later learnt digestion in primary school (I cannot remember the class but I am sure it would be about the same class where you learnt it too).

Another big question which was quite logical to me at the time is: who do doctors go to for treatment when they fall ill (or sick as we say in Naija English)? Up till today I have not gotten a clear answer. Sure, I know doctors see other doctors for treatment but what I am not sure of is if they do so willingly or grudgingly. You know like Doctor Hope is examining Doctor Faith and the latter is thinking in her mind –‘what does she even know sef? I was smarter than her in med school’. Is this what happens to some doctors or do they willingly revert to the role of the patient that follows the doctor’s advice (pun intended)?

Another way of looking at this is the economics of it; why should one doctor pay another for a service that in theory at least they can provide for themselves? I might think like this if I were a doctor and I would love to know what doctors think and what their experiences are on the subject.

If it's a simple illness you buy drugs and treat yourself.If it's something more serious,you have specialists in differents areas of medicine.You simply consult one in the area you need e.g if you are a gynaecologist and you are sick,you could consult a colleague who is a physician.
Sometimes you could consult a senior colleague too.

Lol...u don't understand how the health system works and its legal implications (medico-legal). A doctor can buy over the counter (OTC) medicines for minor illness. However, for illness that requires a prescription, the ill doctor (now a patient) needs to see another doctor for examination (and prescription) as he/she cannot prescribe for himself/herself (self prescription is a serious offense).
Also the judgement (and mental alertness) of a sick doctor may be compromised which could affect his decision making process leading to wrong diagnosis and inappropriate treatment/prescription.

From your comment, its clear you never saw the four walls of a higher institution. If you did, am very sure you won't be talking like this. I know the Nigerian doctors are not the best, but they aren't as bad as you're trying to paint them.
You sound like someone who took to another course after 6 years of trying to get admitted to study medicine and surgery. Don't worry, we understand your pains bro.

you are indeed the Layman my friend.. physicians. are just doctors ( with MBBS or its equivalent) not a specialist with FWACS certificate or its equivalent... before you argue further, pls google it.

Lol at MBBS, a typical Nigerian...jst ask around coz I can see u don't know how to Google.. All Physicians are Specialists, yet not all Specialists are Physicians. A layman knows all doctors as physicians bt there are physician specialists.
