Alessandro Del Piero had an amazing career that lasted more than two decades from 1991 to 2014, and culminated in being part of the world cup winning squad in Germany 2006. His quick pace and amazing skill were his clean tackles and cool head which meant that he didn’t pick up one single red card.

i really like this man, i will name my child after him.

It is noteworthy that most of those defenders on the list were mediocre.
I doubt if there was any great defender in history that did not get a red card.
Those last man defence scenarios would either get you a red card or a goal against your team, and any great defender would make the necessary foul.

Apart from Walkers crisps adverts, Gary Lineker almost helped the lions clinch a second world cup back in Italia ’90. Playing alongside Paul Gascoigne he must have had his hands full with keeping his team mates in line as well as keeping focused on the game.

Gary Lineker is the best of the lot. He was never causioned (yellow carded) in his playing career.

Ryan Giggs has only been sent off once in his career. This was in a match while playing for Wales. He has never been sent off for his club Manchester United.

However, some saint Players exists as well who always play within the rules and make history. Sadly for some, Lionel Messi is not in the list as the Argentine Footballer has received 1 Red Card during his playing time.
