Stable or not, my dream is to buy and set my own Solar plan to serve my energy needs. Lets go renewable and forget the woes of gas pipe bombing by our niger deltan brothers Vs PHCN abi na DISCO excuses, no wonder the Kind Disco-light we're getting this days no get part two. |

Pylony:WORD!! Solar is the way to go, just that it's expensive compared to initial price of purchasing a generator set for the same power capacity. ...but you just can't beat that CONSTANT supply of electricity once you have it. it's a thing of beauty |

NoMoreTrolling:Na so, they tend make its importation so difficult with high custom duty fee, when Kenyan government is trying hard to see all its citizens owning theirs our government want its citizen to hang in the dark so that when a white man viewed Africa, expecially Nigeria from space in his little space-craft he'll have some thing to laugh about a dark nation with darkness every were. well the solar panel can last you 20-25years depending of type and price. |

Pylony:lol @ the darkeness from the sky ![]() honestly, I think a government needs to subsidize the panels for the consumers. forget about petrol subsidy, there should be solar subsidy. as you said, they last for 20-25 years, so it makes sense to subsidize it, as opposed to subsidizing petrol that just burns away in an instant, sigh ![]() even if it's 10% off. later they can build smart grids that enable consumers to sell their excess power. Imagine if I go on vacation for 2 months and i have an empty house with a 2kw solar installation just wasting away. Wouldn't it be smart to sell that back to the grid, so that my neighbor without solar can maybe benefit from that 2kw worth of power? sigh ![]() |

ceejay80s:Ehn en lol...I actually meant inverter with solar....so you can store enough energy. God help us for the yawa we dey for this country |

NoMoreTrolling:lol na true na, African cities and towns when view from the moon is said to be in darkness while the rest of the world is beautifully electrified, they even call the continet a Dark continent because of that yet some of our useless African presidents will gladly go and sit in UN meetings with no shame when their rural and most towns are in total darkness. They only ensure to some extend electricity is served to major cities just to trick any foreigne diplomat visiting the country, that we know. When you go to our Major cities we still believe they are well electrified with bulbs every were, go to Tokyo or New york those are cites not beautiful village. We're still a village continent no offence. Most African governments expecially My dear country Nigeria rather subsidize pollution producing products, adding up to global warning and spending huge money on white elephant projects on the electricity plans around the nation. And yet we're still in the dark. even though subsidy for petroleum product has being done away with, As you mention, "solar Panels should be subsidized". And how do they do that? I think by wooing those major manufacturers of high quality panels into the country to start production. Just of recent, Japan is planning to start the recycling of its huge pill up of old panels to re-sell back to buyers around the world to make income. When a nation lacks leaders with insights about a better future for its citizens all these are bound to happen. Also Morroco, Ghana and South Africa are thinking about building huge Solar Farms to add to their already existing power grids. That of Morroco has being commissioned to some extend already while we're still in the stone age in this country. When rural electrification is not giving the needed attention, the goverment should have nothing to talk about the problem of unemployment because not providing a rural dweller with electricity in the 21st century do you then expect to chain him down from going to the cities in search of Greener pasture? If the fail to embrace electric power sourced through solar then they should keep expecting high unemployment and population explosion that stretches all other infrastructures in the cities and towns as many depend on electricity for their daily bread. Talking about selling your excess electric power to the grid, that is exactly what is doing on in the western world, they that do not have enough annual sun light when compared to its aboundance here on the continent of Africa, where we experienced about 325days of hot sun light yearly that is estimated by experts to generate enough electricity to power one third of the planet earth if well harnessed. Out there they have programs some even wooing their citizens to just mount the panels on their roofs for a discount, where full payment is installmental. And after payment you can sell your excess power to the grid for cash. |

sped1oro:This is not new. All those areas mentioned by you has been so for years. Even better under Jonathan. So it is not a yardstick to measure progress. Fashola has not added a dime to power. On the contrary it is worse in my area. |
