Oral English is poorly taught in 9ja.
Very surprising when you arrive in UK for the first time. At least we said we copied UK system. Hard to compare with American English.

Even Balewa & Ahmadu Bello who were Grade II teachers had better spoken English than most 9ja trained professors of today. cheesy grin grin cheesy

Depends of Country... British or American.
I know Americans use that first pronunciation of divorce which you are telling us is wrong.

As for Often .... BOTH pronunciations with the silent T and the Audible T are correct.
Same with DATA... can be pronounced as both both DAHTAH and DAYTAH.... Americans pronounce it as DAAYDA (The roll the T as fast D) ... Australians say DAH-TAH

Which means we should coin out own, which should be the Nigerian pronunciation.
DATA = DAH TAH

Both pronunciations are correct depending on whether its British, US or other dialect. In spelling for instance, it's like saying that "labor" is wrong while "labour" is right.
