Thanks dragnet. Dominique was also tagged. We want every support from all and sundry just to stop or at least minimise scamming on the thread. My WhatsApp is full of different complaint on a daily basis.

The worst part

The same scammer will be scamming like 4 different people in the same week. My heart aches and I ask myself why? why can't we come together and solve this problem. After all, there is no problem without solution unless we have not decided to stop it.

I have evidence of a DEVIL that scammed an innocent guy here of his $500 btc using text message of vouch supposedly sent by me. The same devil scam another guy of $100+ skrill or thereabout the same week.

In addition, the guy that scammed me of $40 skrill have scameed a lot in the past and also scammed after that on this same forum albeit the blacklisting campaign supported by moderators - I.e the scam list.

Awango and Awaritefe is still in our memory and he is probably preparing another moniker and another method as we speak

Maybe you are not conversant with the scamming activities here, otherwise you will know this is crystal clear. We are surrounded by the same scammers that have been scamming on the thread since inception. they are only employing varying monikers and different methods

But as one of the moderator enlightened, this is a forum and not a market or trading place. So, I won't further more on this. It is left to individual to safeguard his cherised hard earned money

As of last week, the price of bitcoins fell from 420000+ to 40000-, due to the freezing of mmm Nigeria which is the main sponsor of the hick in price, to the best my knowledge, even if mmm doesn't resume it operation in January, the bitcoin will fall to its support line then continue to it upward part. Because i strongly believe that by 2017 a new need will arise for bitcoin.

Scammers still remains the major threat in Nairaland business section, with a proposed bill from Tabbaz to eradicate scamming once and for all by having a PAID ESCROW SERVICE (PES), still in its 2nd reading let's see whether it will hold water.*

Well, I think the escrow service is a welcome development to safeguard the individual's hard-earned money. I however, think that we are making a fundamental mistake. That mistake is a replica of what we are making in Nigeria- relying on individual integrity to change our future for better rather than putting in place a strong structure/institution (with legal backing). I hate to say this. This market that begins as a child's play will grow into something gigantic in the future. This is going to make some people overly too powerful thereby creating another Monster known as the "CABAL". For instance, I still have some reservations about some highly trusted and very active members of this platform being touted as Escrow. A good example of a situation in which power might be misused is sudden removal of my moniker from the trusted members/exchanger without any reason. This occurred after I cautioned on accusing people of being a SCAM without concrete evidence. I have been on Nairaland since 2009 and have dealt with many people without a single blemish. That my name was removed is not the contentious issue here but relying on "INTEGRITY" of online members of a faceless forum rather than instituting a reliable and verifiable structure is only postponing the evil day. Imagine this market grows into handling multi-millions or even billions. Anybody that intends to do business (PAID ESCROW) should not be discrete about his/her identity under any guise. In fact, their name, address, background should be documented and known to members. We may not have the capacity to put up a formidable institution now but if anyone wants to do PAID ESCROW business under the name of the Nairaland community, then do the business like business.

Quick one guys.. After all is said and done, Escrow is still your best bet for safe deals. However,what do you do when you make use of an Escrow and such Escrow refuses to remit your cash (when you already served the request of the client who paid the Escrow)? I have a case at hand at the moment. The Escrow has in fact blocked me on whatsapp.

I am just reading through the debate on whether or not to have paid escrow services. I'll like to air my opinion and stance on the matter.

1) I believe we decided to start doing escrow because we wanted to reduce the activities of scammers on the thread and which we have to a large extent been able to achieve.
2) Most people we escrow for are mostly the upcoming traders who are scared of being scammed. In essence, the older Exchangers most often haven't needed to use escrow services as they know each other and comfortably send 1st based on trust.
3) if we start charging people for escrow services it definitely means that we are increasing the cost of the transaction. Let me explain this. I know Bdavis and Singapore1 will say I too dey calculate . For example, If we charge people #1000 for escrow service for PayPal transaction of $100@#400/$ which ought be #40,000 it means the transaction is now #41,000(making it #410/$) if the escrow service fee is borne by the buyer or #39000 (#390/$) if borne by seller.

Do we really want to increase people's cost of transaction or reduce their income because they want to use escrow services? Does this truly reflect why we decided to start up the escrow in the 1st instance?

4) If people begin to pay for escrow, they'll now have the "power" to even contact you in your sleep because they believe they are paying you for the service and you should respond to them at odd hours even (I have personally had to turn down lots of escrow transactions because the timing was off for me. How do I explain escrowing @ 11:45pm?)

5) Daz when they'll start insulting you because of #1000 escrow fee

Therefore, with those points I have stated, I'll like to inform every nairalander that I STRONGLY OPPOSE THE MOVE FOR PAID ESCROW SERVICES as I think it will discourage upcoming Exchangers and as such, scammers will restrategize around the paid escrow thing and then use it to scam the greedy ones who will want to boycott the escrow payment(again, the money you guys are offering is too small and will not worth meanwhile .). However, I have my own rules which are:
1) Don't contact me too early in the morning or too at night (escrow services strictly 10am-7pm)
2) You will not rush me to do any escrow service
3) You bear all the bank charges on the transaction
4) If you get me angry or waste my time, I'll blacklist you from those I escrow for

I have work rules and ethics.
My clients know not to contact me at odd hours for business.
1am isn't ideal time for business and reasonable people know this.

Once more even if escrow services give me #10k per transaction on nairaland, I am not interested in it.

Its my opinion and my stance and I'll like if it's respected.
