I don't usually quote people like you but in this case, I have to make an exception.
You called an entire state foolish because you stayed with an indigene and he stole from you, right? Does that even make sense to you? Only a foolish person makes hasty generalisations like that and judging from your poorly constructed sentence, who's to say you aren't?

It seems you don't understand what I'm trying to say. You generalised when you've met few people. Meeting many is not even a reason to do that because that is a relative term
Delta State has a population for 4,000,000+, now tell me if you've met even a quarter of that. Have you met me?

Time will tell, after all can a leopard molt it's skin? If Ibori returns to help his people and not steal then history may remember him more tolerable. If not then na business as usual, a thief remains a thief and I don't think ibori has changed

Money laundering: the concealment of the origins of illegally obtained money, typically by means of transfers involving foreign banks or legitimate businesses.

I know you must have followed the case, but let's go through this academic exercise. grin

Exactly . So if you transfer money in or out of the UK above , £10k and did not declare it then you are as guilty as Ibori .so let is stick to that .
I see people naming offence here which never came up in the UK court . As you can see in your own definition even though you get the money fru legitimate means and do not pay tax or declare and transfer it then it laundering .The same thing MESI was gonna go fru until he was fined .
PS :I was responding as you used the word stole . That's still unproven . To the UK court the funds where legitimate but source hidden.

Did you read the definition properly? It read illegally, not legally. Tax evasion is different from money laundering oga. Please do not quote me wrongly. Ibori acquired the funds illegally. Did you follow the case at all?

Money laundering is the process of creating the appearance that large amounts of money obtained from serious crimes, such as drug trafficking or terrorist activity, originated from a legitimate source.

Money Laundering. The process of taking the proceeds of criminal activity and making them appear legal.

INTERPOL's definition of money laundering is: "any act or attempted act to conceal or disguise the identity of illegally obtained proceeds so that they appear to have originated from legitimate sources".
Illegally obtained funds are laundered and moved around the globe using and abusing shell companies, intermediaries and money transmitters. In this way, the illegal funds remain hidden and are integrated into legal business and into the legal economy.

You missed the point sir .
The funds in this case was tendered as laundered cos Ibori could not show it's source and he pleaded guilty . None of this money was stollen in the UK . All in Nigeria which I would assume as proceeds of corruption . If he was a Business man and he could prove the source of the money then he would be good.

To start with, money laundering is an international crime which countries around the world come together to combat. If you steal money in one country and try to launder it through another country, you have committed a crime and will be prosecuted if caught. Where you acquired the money from illegally is irrelevant. You should check the 1988 Vienna Convention. As long as it is money which you didn't acquire legitimately, it will be considered to be money laundering.

The money was acquired illegally in Nigeria and they laundered it in the UK and only God knows where, acquiring properties and so on. If a businessman decides to buy a house in London and can show proof under investigation that his money is legit, then of course he has no problem.
