India recently approved 3.2 billion dollars for night vision devices for its soldiers , this is separate from the amount already allocated for night vision devices meant for the tanks and other vehicles and also the LMGs.

one of the contenders is the the tonbo imaging , it has good chances because it is an Indian company and technologically they r on the top so much so that DARPA and US SOCOM r their main clients.

Arjun is a small, lightweight uncooled thermal imaging sight designed and optimized for small and medium caliber weapons. It can also be used as a standalone hand held thermal imager or a helmet mounted TI sight.

It is optimally designed to work as a CLIPON TI sight with existing day 4x magnified day scopes.

These mini sight can be detached and reattached without affecting the boresight of the day scope; significantly improving operator performance and tactical flexibility.

Arjun provides a cost effective thermal imaging alternative to antiquated image intensifier sights offering far superior detection and engagement capabilities at comparable price points.

Arjun is based on state-of-the-art HawkVision thermal imaging core. With a resistive Amorphous Silicon based 640 x 480 / 384×288 micro bolometer array on a 17-micron pitch and advanced thermal image processing. It features field replaceable optics enabling it to be used on any weapon system.
It is compatible with tactical head mounted wireless display which allows soldiers to accurately shoot around corners. Since over Fifty percent of kills happen on the corners, It lets soldiers see around corners and shoot targets without entering the line of fire. A soldier can crouch behind a blockade, stick his weapon over his head, and shoot his target with the same accuracy as if he were taking aim normally.

Unlike any other weapon sight, it is designed with custom tactical mounts that provide zero retention even after firing hundreds of rounds. The sight is designed to maintain zero even if detached and reattached thus allowing soldier to change optics on the battlefield without requiring to zero the weapon.


The Peruvian government signed a $1.5 billion deal with UWS to assemble and jointly manufacture 300,000 rifles to modernise the weaponry of the armed forces and its national police. The tender to supply day optics for the guns was won by US-based Browe, Inc., while the contract for night-vision sights was bagged by Tonbo. UWS conducted field trials on Tonbo’s weapon sight ‘Arjun’ over eight months. The ‘Arjun’ sights fended off competition from multinational defence companies such as BAE Systems plc, L-3 Communications Holdings, Inc., and FLIR Systems, Inc.

most of the time it is a no , since OEM rules forbid it , u will need the permission of the IPR holders before u can transfer them.

also there r factors relating to supply of spares , maintenance etc

again aircrafts r generally decommissioned at the end of their airframe life , so there r inherent risks if anybody uses them past their airframe life.
