Afolabi, Oluseyi Afolayan of the department of Food Science and Technology obtained a perfect CGPA: 5.00/5.00 (100%- Distinction) at Master's Level (Master of Technology- 2016) at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). I guess, this will be the first of it kind at Postgraduate level in Nigeria. Excellence should be encouraged and celebrated.

It may NOT be the first of its kind in Nigeria. The reason is this-the grading system difffers from one university to another. But having distinctions(70 and above) all through, at Masters level, is not uncommon.

For instance, before now, UI used 'percentage' to grade and not CGPA and there were those who graduated with distinctions in all their courses...As such, if the grading system was that of CGPA,as long as the person had atleast 70%, then it would be 5 points for such a person too...

The only thing that would make the FUTA graduate unique is if he had 100% in all the courses he offered...and I doubt it!

nice observation.....if I hear say he had 100 percent in all his courses?....yimu....he had As in all courses and that is not new as far as masters in Nigeria!!

True talk!
Kudos to the scholar for graduating with a CGPA of 5.0!
However, having a cumulative percentage of 100% in all the courses he offered (including his MSc project) is arguably impossible (we ain't talking about objective exams here). Assessments of courses offered in MSc programs are not only based on written exams but also on submission of numerous assignments, writing of term papers, fieldworks/researches, presentations, among others. I doubt if a student, after the whole assessment process, could score 100% in a course not to talk of all the courses he/she offered.
CGPA of 5.0 is very possible but not a cumulative percentage of 100%.
