I am a student and I plan to be a software programmer when I am ready(hopefully before February next year). How possible is it for me to be a freelance software programmer? Are there possibilities for freelance software programmers (I mean in the Nigerian Context here)? I am quite new to it all.

i think he meant freelancing in the nigerian context. Earning a living over here. Not scraping pennies on fiverr.

Real freelance , will earn you higher than typical employee wages. I think that's the op's main thrust. Not online hustle. Offline hustle.

You have a point tho. Some of us don't mind extra income on d side even if it's as little as $500 every two weeks

Why freelance ?

You need some experience before you can think of freelancing.
E.g no bank will enagage you or pay you what you are worth as a freelancer because you don't even know what Finacle or flex cube is.

Working in organizations will expose you to a lot of things.

Organizations like... Have you tried to Google some IT firms in Nigeria, especially Lagos? Get their addresses man, and stop waiting to be spoon fed.
NB: make sure you've got some thing nice in your portfolio to show that your skill is genuine.
