A police man is a federal asset that can and must be deployed where needed.

Most of the affected men are not even from the SouthWest, but have become too accustomed to the easy life in the SouthWest where confrontation with armed criminals is not too rampant.

Now they have been deployed to where they are the prey, the victim. Unlike the SouthWest where police is the tyrant.

Off you go on your patriotic duty.
The issue is all about money.
Apart frm the north-eastern states of Bornu, Yobe and Adamawa all other northern states re largely peaceful and free of crime. A society devoid of crime means no money for the Police, hence the protest against going up north.

Be truthful for once in your life. How many years have you 'spended' out of yorubaland?
I spended many years in Lagos before I left to spended another years in portharcourt then now in the north to try to spended the remaining few months before I will go join Trump to spended the remaining with my family.

Guy, I totally disagree. Take your time and do your survey, we are equally fed up with the one Nigeria thing, only few politicians that are direct beneficiaries from their corruption scheme are in support. We need to start all over again, so that the concept of equality can be clearly defined and not for some men of wasted generations to be taking self serving disastrous policies on behalf of me and my yet unborn kids. They eat in gold plate with their kids and even dogs, here we are over one million trying to share a meal in a single plastic plate. Think about my parable.

Eyaaa I feel like crying right now because of your reason but heck sorry your coward Afonja Police officer must honour your father's land.I thought you Afonjas love one Nigeria? so you people should stop crying like baby.Nobody hears the complaint of Igbo Police officers that been transferring to the North even more than your coward Yoruba Police officers
I refuse to believe that Nairaland we have labored to build from the beginning is now a vent for ethnic bigotry. Many times I made common sense, some people here throw shades of tribalism in. Stop it! This is not the Nigeria we should look forward to.

I am from Benin like I have said many times, I am not biased toward Igbos or Yorubas. I want the right thing done. We should not allow our emotional victimization cloud our good judgement, lest we would be termed people from the zoo.

Whoever might have posted this comment, I think you need a technician to format your brain. The bribing syndrome is not only applicable to the Yorubas but to the entire NPF in Nigeria. I have been to the North and other southern states and the story is the same. To me, it is an attribute of a failed system and we need to perform a root cause analysis to certify the cause and propose the solution. Our agitation here is that every one should bear his cross, let the Yoruba men in uniform stays back and protect his brothers and not to be killed by insecurity in Maiduguri. We are not treated well when it comes to wealth and opportunity distribution in Naija, so why given us the largest share when it come to crisis resolution in maiduguri.

Why protest? Did they join the south west police or the Nigerian police? The north is part of the Nigeria they swore to serve, besides it is not by force they can resign voluntarily
Is it fair if their northern counterpart doesn't resume duty as a result of transfer yet they get paid? Please answer this

seriously this is spot on. Any officer found to be lobbying to avoid the transfer should be relieved from duty with immediate effect. For all our brothers who don't know how the system works, it doesn't mean the officers are 100% yoruba, it is called posting. You have officers from all over the federation posted to every nook and crany of Nigeria . So calm down Igbo officers in south west are going to the north too . any officer who doesn't want to accept his new post should resign.

ajbf:
NOT fewer than 1,260 policemen from the six South West states of the country recently transferred to Northern states, especially the North East, where Boko Haram insurgency was rampant, have complained bitterly against what they termed ‘lopsided transfer that attracts no incentives.

According to a signal by AIG Abdul Bude from Force Headquarters, Abuja, dated December 24, 2016 with reference No CB 4770/FS/FHQ/ABJ/Vol. 5/232, the affected policemen have been mandated to assemble in Kaduna on January 4, 2017.

Though, they said as security agents, their primary duty is to protect lives and property, they are not comfortable with the way the transfer which dates back to 1997 is being handled.

An impeccable source told Vanguard that the transfer carried out in 1997, 2003 and 2015 had recorded heavy casualties among the policemen from the South West due to inadequate facilities.

They are principally unhappy because they are allegedly not treated equally with their Northern counterparts.

One of the affected policemen who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation said their northern colleagues who are equally transferred at the same time are treated as sacred cows because despite disobeying the police authorities, by shunning the transfer, still get to collect their salaries.

According to one of them: ‘’Lives of several policemen from the South West that were transferred in the past had been wasted by the insurgents.’’

Other grievances of the aggrieved policemen include non-provision of vehicles to convey them to their new stations; non-provision of accommodation and other welfare packages, language barrier and non-familiarity with the northern terrain.

He said; “Since they started the transfer, lives of several policemen of South West extraction have been wasted because when they transfer them, the authority would not provide necessary facilities such as money, accommodation which make them prone to attacks by the insurgents.

“We are not happy at all. This transfer was earlier stopped by the National Assembly and a powerful politician from the South West in 2015. It is the same policemen that are being transferred now. We knew this because their transfer letters bore their former ranks under the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.”

With the transfer, he said the police authorities ran foul of an earlier document which states that no policeman should be transferred outside his zone of origin.

Oga there is nothing like 'I choose not to go'. The force is called Nigerian police force (NPF) so any member of NPF will go wherever NPF decides to post him or her
