Awaiting Val. --- Episode one It was January fifth and on this afternoon Karen was a washed with excitement as the bus got to its final stop at the park. She said a silent prayer for arriving back to school safely. Even though she knew that a lot of work awaits her in her hostel, her enthusiasm was not a bit diminished. Taking a look around her, she could see other students trying to make their way out of the park. Some carry heavy luggage that are obviously provision and food stuff and that made Karen wonder why students go through all that trouble when they can as well buy from the big market here at school. Karen burst out laughing when she saw a guy alight one of the buses with a big bag of rice. She couldn't resist a wink at the guy and following her gaze the guy smiled back at her. Karen wave a goodbye at the guy and turned to make her way out of the park with her own clothing which was light and contains only a few clothing she had taken home for the short Christmas and new year break. As she walked out of the park, her mind reflected back to all the partying and fun activities that had happened back at home during the Christmas and new year celebrations. She had really enjoyed herself and eaten as much of her mother's food as she could possibly eat. Karen has a slim stature and a bottomless stomach that her mother termed "the elastic drum that never gets filled up" . her mother enjoys tormenting her with stories about her child hood which often feature Karen as a glutton especially that of her infancy when she was still a suckling. One of those stories according to her mother was that Karen suckled with so much strain on the breast that at a stage they went on strike and refuse to produce breast milk for one week. Although it is a well established fact that Karen eat a lot, her slim nature is forever maintained and that is one surprising fact about her because she is not one known to enjoy exercise.
Karen was brought back to reality by the sound of a horn from an angry tricyclist as she was standing so dangerously close to the road while in her reverie. She felt a sickening feeling develop within her as she began to family back at home.
With all the enthusiasm of her early resumption back to school washed from her, she boarded a taxi and by the time she arrived home and cleaned up her room , she was so exhausted that all she could do was fall on her bed and slept off. Her dream that night was that of a cute guy alighting a bus with a bag of rice smiling at her beckoning her to join him but to her utmost surprise and devastation , her legs refuse to corporate and remained end rooted to one spot. She woke up in the middle of the night panting and sweating profusely from the mental and physical exertion the dream had on her. That night proved to be a very long night until dawn came to relieve Karen of her vigil.

Awaiting val -- Episode two
Despite the fact that Karen didn't have much sleep the previous night, she rose up early from bed and quickly did her morning chores, took her bath then dressed up to go see her best male friend Leonard. Leonard is her best friend in school and also her departmental mate. He is the main reason why she resumed school early. Their friendship was so close that people around them find it very difficult to believe that there nothing more than " just friends" between them. At first Karen was bothered by what people think of them but she soon got tired of explaining their relationship to people and consoled herself with the saying that "no matter what you do in this life, people will always have something to say about it". Fortified by that, Karen forged ahead with her friendship with Leonard and their bond grew ever stronger. Often time her best female friend Linda make scathing comment about how his presence in Karen's life is serving as a barrier for other guys to come in but she soon grew tired and stopped interfering. It became a well established fact to all who were observing them that Karen and Leonard's friendship was for better for worse even though they were not dating.
Haven finished up her dressing, she headed for Leonard's house. He is not aware of her resumption so she intend to surprise him with her visit. Leonard was indeed surprised by her visit but he was happy to see her and as they exchange pleasantries he surveyed her from head to toe looking for any slight change in her body form but found none. ' Karen you never seize to amaze me. I can only imagine the amount of food u have eaten while you were back home yet your body still looks the same. I wish Linda is like you.' Leonard had this serious expression on his face that though Karen didn't read any meaning to it, she was glad that Leonard like her body. She prayed silently to God thanking him for giving her such a body. In spite of the fact that Karen hate to admit it, she secretly likes the attention generated by her beauty. They entertained each other with tales about her they spent their holiday and made further plans for the semester. They spent the rest of the day playing and having fun,discussing everything and nothing. The sound of their laughter could be heard all over Leonard's hostel

Karen spent the remaining part of the day at Leonard's house and by 6pm in the evening she took her leave. She mentally prepared herself for what she was going to face when she arrived home. This morning Linda had sent a text message to Karen telling her that she would be resuming school today and Karen wasn't really happy with it. In the month of November last year, Linda had accommodation issues due to some financial problems she was facing and as her best friend, Karen had invited her to come live with her in her hostel. It proved to be an exciting experience for both of them and they live fine with each other until a time came in the month of December when Karen confided in her friend that she had a crush on one of their departmental mate, Samson. Linda was so eager to play matchmaker that she pass on the information to Samson that same day without taking permission from her friend Karen.
Samson who happened to be one of Karen's secret admirer decided to take advantage of the situation and came out clear with Karen the next day.
Although Karen was OK with the way things turned out, she felt betrayed by her friend especially when during the short period of two weeks the relationship lasted, her friend kept on playing the role of middle man , always trying to know what was going on in the relationship and sometimes going the extra mile of finding out from both parties. What got Karen annoyed mostly was her friend dishing out information to Samson about how she had lived her life. Karen's trust on her friend was chattered to pieces and after several unsuccessful trials to stop her from interfering in the relationship she decided to quit and went mute about the whole situation but not before telling Linda her disappointed she is. Linda is not one to take corrections let alone accusation lightly, so she started giving Karen the silent treatment. They both began cooking and eating separately and were both glad that the Christmas and new year break was just around the corner to relieve them of the unbearable tension hovering around them. Throughout the Christmas holiday, they didn't contact each other and Karen wonder how they would react to each other when she gets home. She was still musing when she noticed a black sparkling car come to a halt in front of her. Taking a closer look at the driver, a light of recognition shown in her eyes with surprise written all over her face. It was the guy with the big bag of rice at the park yesterday who later came into her dream to taunt her. He was looking even more handsome than before. He introduced himself as Kelvin and Karen accepted a ride home and invited him. To her surprise Linda gave them both a warm welcome and the air was filled with Merriment as they exchange stories of how their holiday went.
Kelvin didn't spend much time before leaving. He was glad that he ran into Karen today. The other day at the park she had left so quickly giving giving him no time to properly introduce himself or take her number. He couldn't help but be happy that nature did him that favour. Immediately kelvin left, Linda became suddenly moody and gradually retreated into herself giving Karen the silent treatment again.

Awaiting Val -- Episode four
With each passing day, Karen continue to feel that she was living with a stranger. One minute Linda will be happy and they would interact well and the next minute she would become moody and retreat into herself shutting Karen out. At first Karen felt her friend was angry at her and is still keeping grudges over their quarrel of last year. But later she began to suspect that her friend mood swing might be as a result of problems she is facing in her relationship and she is merely transferring aggression. It has been two weeks since they resumed school and not once has she seen or heard Linda answered any phone call from her boyfriend. She even sneaked a look through Linda's call history and none of the calls received came from the guy neither was any call put to him and that is very unusual because before now, Karen had secretly envied her friend's relationship because his was always the first call Linda received every morning and the last every night. The love birds can't do without each other for a day and often time Linda travel on weekends to visit him. Linda always brag about the fact that despite her many weekend visitations to her boyfriend's house, never had they have sex for the whole time they have been dating and this amount to almost two years. Karen didn't know if she should believe her friend's story because judging from the little she know about the guy, he is not really a churchy or spiritually inclined type of guy but whatever the case might be, their type of relationship was one she also wanted for herself. Both Linda and karen are in their final year in school and most of the girls in their department are already getting married so it would really be a sad thing for Linda to leave a relationship she had worked so hard to build especially when the guy in question is a working class graduate. But nevertheless no matter what the source of her friend's mood swing might be, she seem determined to shut her out so Karen decided she would help her do it by not trying to force Linda to talk. She would just watch Linda change mood because for all she knew the anger might actually be directly target at her. Karen stole a glance at Linda in the kitchen and wondered about what could be going on in her head. Since they resume school, they had continued cooking and eating seperately and Karen wondered how long it would continue to happen. Her mother had adviced her to send linda packing if she refused to change because it is better to have a stranger as your enemy than to have your friend or relative as an enemy. Linda is no longer facing any financial challenge and can arrange for her accommodation now. Karen decided that it is high time she took her mother's advice.

Kelvin stared at Karen as she professed her love for him. he couldn't believe his luck. The girl
has every thing he could ever wished for in a
woman. She is beautiful and not a single ounce of
fat could be found on her. every part of her
body is toned to perfection. She is an epitome
of beauty, black beauty at its peak. The sparkle in her eyes draws him to their dept. Her smiles
displays a pair of dimples on her face and
a little gap in between her teeth .her beauty is
overwhelming. Not only does her outer beauty
enchant him but also her inner beauty. The girl has a heart made of gold. she had met him in
the most unlikely circumstance when he was
helping a pregnant woman carry her bag of rice
out of the bus he took the day he resumed
school. They had made an immediate connection.
He could see that Karen love for him was
sincere and she is not after his money.
His last relationship had spoilt his heart for
women in general but this girl with her
bewitching smile is calling out his soul to
her. There is saying that there is a woman for
every man and he thinks his is sitting right in
front of him.
He had noticed her fondness for him the first
time she invited him to her house. She couldn't
keep her eyes off him the whole time and the
strong chemistry between them was only kept in
check by the presence of her friend Linda in
the house. He could almost smell electricity in
the air then.
He didn't waste anytime to take their
relationship to the next level after that. She is the kind of woman you would like to own and
brand yours. Heaven help him for he thinks this
girl would be the death of him.
She had accepted him the minute he proposed a
relationship to her. Though he was a bit
shocked, he appreciated the fact that she didn't
have any pretentious bone in her. Their
feelings were mutual. In his opinion, the man
who could resist Karen's body is not yet born.
She carry this aura of innocence around her
that she could have any man at the snap of her
fingers but here she is offering it all to him on a platter of gold.
But then he has to play his game very well.
His last relationship had burnt him so badly that
it had taken him half a year to gather up the
ashes and move on with his life. He couldn't
afford to be burnt like that again. He is not
sure he has the energy to survive a second
heart break. Having Karen feel that her love
for him is greater than his, would be good for
his health. He kind of has this orientation
that women no matter their innocence are wild
creatures that need taming. The minute they
know the power is on their side of the scale,they ride on you. He wont play the fool
again. He had placed his heart on the floor for
Gina his ex girlfriend to walk on but she had
smashed it to pieces. He needs to balance the
scale this time, now that Karen is in his
life. He have to be in control and looking at
Karen, he wouldn't need much effort doing that.
The girl is being so sweet that only a fool
will pass up such an opportunity.
The only thing that distress him is her
closeness with Leonard. The girl seem not to be
able to complete any statement without
mentioning Leonard's name. Their friendship
seems harmless but he is not ready to share her
affection with any man. He already considers
Leonard a rival so he had to put up a good
competition. He is looking forward to meeting
him and possibly striking a friendship with
him. It is better to keep your enemies close
where you can keep an eye on them, though he can
hardly call Leonard an enemy.
He had tried to weave his way
into Karen's life by being close to her friend
Linda. Though they don't seem to go along now, its
better to be on the safe side. Gina's friend,
Sandra had thought him a bitter lesson in life. Most girls listen to their girlfriends and
often times are influenced by what they had to
say about their relationship. Sandra was the
catalyst that sped up his break up with Gina. He
was not about to make the same mistake again.
Linda hasn't been easy to work on but she is
still a woman and like most women once you
discover her soft side, press the right buttons
then you get her to do as you want. A little
bit of probing on Karen and he was able to
gather that Linda was passing through emotional
problems that has to deal with her failed
relationship. so he decided to give her what
she was missing.He made sure that he talks to
her whenever he calls to check up on Karen.
that did the magic because she started crawling
out of her shell. she light up whenever she
sees him and some how got his number from
Karen's phone and started giving him calls of
her own. kelvin has a suspicion that Karen is
not aware of this new development and that hell
will break loose when she finds out. he had
noticed her increased agitation and displeasure
with his continous show of interest on Linda.
he figured is women jealousy, she cats baring
their fangs.Kelvin find it hard to imagine how
two people who use to be best of friends could
grow so far apart.he really wished he could
seal the rift between them. in his heart, he
finds it amusing to see the jealous side of
Karen. he figures being jealous would bring
Karen closer to him. women like to defend their
territories from intruders.
right now his measure goal is to meet this
Leonard that Karen wouldn't stop singing
about. Even men has to defend their territories
too. He wondered what Karen would do if he knew
what was running through his mind.

Awaiting Val -- Episode six
Watch out! Karen ducked as the ball came whooshing pass her head. This was the third time the ball missed hitting her. She chased after it and confiscated it. A minute later its owner came asking for it. Karen bestowed one of her most intimidating stares on the kid but he didn't cowed rather his eyes came bulging out in response. Karen made an exasperated sigh as she examined the kid who look on the verge of breaking down in tears. He shouldn't be more than eight yet already knows how to manipulate adults to do his bidding. 'I suppose you know that the water works won't work on me? Right? Your ball missed smacking me on the face thrice and that's not funny.'
' I am very sorry aunty. I would be more careful with it. Can you please hand it back to me? His face was so innocent and nothing soften the mind more than a kid's apology voiced so innocently. As the boy ran back happily, ball in hand, to join his friends, Karen poised herself ready in case of any more attach from that direction. Kids can be so unpredictable.
Karen inhaled a deep breath of fresh sea air closing her eyes to savour its refreshing feel to calm her nerves. She watched the motion of the sea as the waves travel from the centre of the sea before breaking on the shore. She watched as people swam back and forth from sea to shore. The children yelped with delight as they played in the cold water being careful to stay close to the shore. Some kids walked about with ice cream cones in hand while some could been seen playing on the sand building sand dunes. Lounging parents from a distance kept an eye on their kids. With valentine day just a week ahead, the beach was packed full with more than its usual crowd of good timers. Karen watched as lovers walk hand in hand along the shore. The scene was so romantic that she had this sudden feeling of loneliness.
Karen surf through the crowed searching for Leonard and kelvin. It had not taken the duo up to an hour after they were introduced to develop a liking for each other. Karen had been uneasy about this meeting because of the eagerness Kelvin showed. He had been so persistent that Karen feared for the worse and had literally held her breath when Leonard joined them at the beach. But trust Leonard, he has this way with guys that he can put even the most difficult of them at ease. They soon bonded and went off leaving Karen all by herself wishing she had brought Linda along to keep her company.
They raced around the beach and later joined a group of guys playing with ball in the water. Karen watched their macho display of bravado. Nothing at that moment pleased Karen more than to watch the two most important men in her life go along with each other. It was one weight lifted from her heart, count down to one.
She couldn't bear to be made to choose between them. Leonard had been a part of her life all the years she had spent in school and has come to see him as a brother. She cared for him and wouldn't want anything to come between them. And now she is head over heels in love with Kelvin. He is her other half. He makes her complete. The mere thought of him with another woman makes her stomach shurn. That is the major reason she hasn't invited Linda to come along with them. She is too much trouble. The girl likes over crossing her boundary. She had over heard Linda talking on phone with kelvin the other day and wondered what she was up to this time. Although she doesn't like the idea of quarrelling with Linda over a guy again but the girl is a but case and she needs to be put in her proper place. How she hoped to do that is still not clear. Giving Linda the red card from her house is tempting but she figures it would do no good because Linda can always reach kelvin on phone. Better to keep her close where she can monitor her activities.
She has thought about calling Kelvin to order but it would be childish of her to do that. He meant no harm and is merely trying to help Linda recover from her emotional trauma. But he doesn't know Linda well like she does. He doesn't know to what extent Linda would go to meddle in other peoples business .
Karen forced out those feelings from her mind and pasted a smile on her face as she sighted Leonard and kelvin coming. In her mind they look like two Roman gods with well built muscles and chiseled features. She gasp as kelvin took her into his arms and swung her around. She laughed in delight as both Leonard and kelvin passed her to and fro, whirl her up in the air giving her a giddy sensation. She felt at peace with the world.
