In his book What They Don’t Teach You At Harvard Business School, Mark McCormack tells of a study conducted with new graduates from the 1979 Harvard
MBA program. In that year, the students were asked, "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?" 84% had no specific goals at all, 13% had goals but they were not in writing, 3% had clear, written goals and plans to accomplish them.

Ten years later, they interviewed the members of the class once again. The results? The 13% of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84% who had no goals at all. More shocking, the 3% with clear, written goals
were making ten times as much as the other 97% put together!

Let's take a cue and set our goals aright.

They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them. Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.

I know this one is not exactly similar...but I think it's tied to the seminar I co-facilitated some few weeks back. It's about goal setting in general. Whether career wise or so, I feel it's related. And this is because of what this other guy said about Harvard. I'll share some images too.

Now we recently came across the importance of goal setting in one's work life. And boy, was it an eye opener. The sessions were interesting and at the same time frustrating. We almost didn't go for the holidays as most staff didn't even know what they wanted to do in the incoming year. We had to take it step by step. It was very tiring.

But in the end, living a directionless life is living a life of no purpose whatsoever. Which means all you do is just to live. No plans for the future. I recently took stock of my one year and discovered that apart from my thanking God for keeping me alive, I didn't even achieve anything. And then I started wondering what I did with the whole year. I have set goals for my work life and personal life. It really, really helps one to remain focused and live a more fulfilling life.

Setting goals clearly means having a vision. And with a vision, you can go very far in life. Goal setting is very crucial in all our endeavors and it serves as a GPS of life.
