Back then then we had youths who were intelligent, responsible and courageous... guess soyinka is below 30 as at 1967
today we have youth who are so much gullible, irresponsible and uncultured...
it's unfortunate!
load of crap, who trained those youths to be uncultured?, who refused to give them space in government? In nigeria it is more profitable and easier to be a tout, kidnapper, militant, terrorist than to be an olympian, a graduate or any meaningful thing.
For the youths to be responsible and cultured jobs upon graduation should be sure, Falz should have earned more as a lawyer than a musician, 20/30 year olds should run government ministries (even if only as understudy/assistant to the main guys), our grand father's should give way or atleast make space for the new.
Once this little things are done youths will see it is profitable to be enlightened, cultured and what have you cos those who are enlightened youths are living better than the unenlightened youths. Until then

He was sold out by his fellow Egba man, Obasanjo who reported him to his Fulani masters for his own personal promotion.

This is one reason why Biafra advocates and agitators need to pursue their ambition more intelligently. Here's an "Afonja" according to you guys fighting for your freedom before you (and possibly your father) were born. It's amazing that almost 5 decades gone, Soyinka is still in support of Biafra struggle when many of your selfish politicians are still romancing with Nigeria and begging for monthly allocations from Abuja, instead of speaking up for Igbo nation and defending Kanu Nnamdi and his IPOB colleagues.

I've said it before and am saying it again that Igbos are the enemies of themselves as far as the Biafra cause is concerned, and for as long as they are unable to conquer the enemies within they can as well forget about conquering those outside.

In 1967, during the early days of the Biafran war, Professor Wole Soyinka was accused of being a Biafran spy. The photo was taken the day he was arrested by the Nigerian police. He was put in solitary confinment for 2 years.

Honestly, Soyinka has done his best for Nigeria. If I were him I'll just go to rest and forget about this country. This's a useless country!.

This looks more like taking a stroll into the prison. The days when human rights have not been dusted into the bin

Hope you realise that Soyinka was never convicted by any court. He was simply dumped into SOLITARY CONFINEMENT for over two years on mere suspicion of being a Biafra sympathizer.

So much for human rights

But for Wole Soyinka, the first to talk about the Asaba Massacre (one of the reasons why Gowon had him arrested), no one outside Biafra might have heard about the callous massacre. This man, refusing to drop his cause for Igbos, was thrown into solitary confinement with the aim to forget him there. It is a pity that even though Achebe appreciated Soyinka's effort, most Igbos are uninformed about Soyinka. Most Nigerians are uninformed as well and see him as a nuisance just as the likes of Gowon, Buhari, Babangida and Abacha saw him then. Wole Soyinka who risked his life by seizing a radio station to lambast Abacha. Nigeria and Nigerians are not worth dying or going to jail for. The likes of Gani Fawehinmi who were in constant war with Abacha because of the common man did not even get much votes when he contested for the presidency.

Leadership is earned not given, the youths of this generation want leadership on a platter of gold. That is what is wrong, Ojukwu took on a war that will forever define him and in fact spring forth current struggle of the IPOB youths when he was only 33 years. Gowon became president at 32 and ruled for 9 years, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart at age of 28, Awolowo, Babangida, Azik, Nkrumah of Ghana, Thomas Sankara etc have three things this generation don't. Hope, Dream and high sense of responsibility. A lot of them, good or bad, were so convinced in their cause they were ready and prepared to die for it. What we have now are social media warriors, fools without direction or passion for a tangible cause. If I was a leader I won't hand them leadership either.

Y r we yorubas trying to placate this igbo ppl. They are the most racist and sentimal tribe in the world. Despite the sacrifices of Prof, they still call him names. We better leave their matter. The igbo ppl flock nairaland daily to make racist comments and even give likes in droves to the most ignorant, barbaric and unintelligent comments. The Igbo stay in multitude in almost every part of Nigeria and yet hate everyone except their tribemates#bigots. Remember, you can't eat your cake and have it.

You are right. This man went to jail because he opposed the civil war. Yet, the children and grandchildren of those who suffered most and lost most are the ones insulting him today. WS should be their hero, but they prefer Fayose and FFK. They are imbecilic and moronic ingrates.

and this s one tribe some gullible Igbos hate wt passion. d day Yorubas give their supports to seccession of Biafra is d beginning of having Biafra republic. yorubas r so blessed wt so many human right activists dat can champion d strugle peacefully without any violence or hates speech but wt best use of media. British government can testify to dat. its so possible for an Igbo man to become nigeria president but ds cant happen if thr s no support from either yorubas or hausas. Let's love one another
